RUDEC is an NGO that seeks to provide Educational and Health services for local Belo villagers living in remote areas. Due to the poor economic conditions, the awareness and education for promoting healthy communities is our organization's priority. Our mission is to decrease the high risk of HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and Other diseases. in addition, to provide access to treatments for those local villages, where access to health care can be accessible and not cost-prohibiting. The community health volunteers can play an integral role in raising public awareness by preventing and treating illnesses for RUDEC sponsored orphans, destitute children, and the community at large. Volunteers' responsibilities vary based on the levels of experience, and passionate individuals can fundamentally

improve the lives of villagers, and in return they can seek knowledge and experience in working with a different culture

and research.

   

MAJOR TASKS: 

-providing direct health care benefits 

-facilitating public health clinics, screenings, and check-ups for populations

-utilizing RUDEC space to facilitate community seminars on behavioral change, nutrition, sanitation, and prevention against common diseases.

-Volunteers will administer on-site inspections of RUDEC sponsored children in their homes, advise on safety and health issues where necessary, and accompany them to regular health check-ups, vaccinations, and HIV/AIDS screenings.

Volunteers will assist local nursing schools with class instruction as needed Volunteers arriving with specific interest in particular disease or health issues are welcome to design programs around prevention and/or treatment. 

 

Competencies

-Strong communication skills, Cultural sensitivity, and Personal initiative     

-Professional or academic experience in health care, disease prevention, treatment, and/or health education Experience providing direct health care beneficial but not required Basic English recommended for direct care providers;  intermediate English recommended for all other responsibilities Strong communication skills, Cultural sensitivity, Personal initiative

Qualifications

Education: a Degree in Nursing, Medicine, biology, or equivalent

Experience: a minimum of 2 years of professional or academic experience in health care, and/or Nursing.

Languages: English is required

Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s).
Language Skills
You need to speak English (intermediate level)

Health, international development, rural health, biochemistry engineering at University level

Nationality Restrictions
No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Other Skills
Relevant work experience in any related heath activity. Interns who had not experience would be welcome provided they did biology, thought health to community in his home town and biochemical engineer
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 06:00 - 16:00

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. An airport pickup isn't included within the program fees either. Please arrange your own accommodation. Food, snacks or beverages are at extra costs.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Bamenda (BPC) in Bamenda. We assist you to find cheap flights to Cameroon.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Cameroon provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Cameroon you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Cameroon.

You can volunteer at the project site in Belo/Cameroon between 4 weeks and 12 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. RUDEC will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Crowdfunding Service
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in Cameroon.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with RUDEC during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
