About Us

Kipepeo Community Empowerment project aims to empower young people to make sound career and life decisions as they transit from high school to the next phase of their lives. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of the local communities in Emuhaya District trough sustainable local development initiatives.

About the Program

This KCEP program is about free computer trainings for orphans and vulnerable youths from the communities in Emuhaya District. They are young people who have never worked with a computer before and they cannot afford to pay for computer lessons in colleges.

This Kipepeo Community Empowerment program is meant to empower Kenyas youth through computer skills and enable them acquirering i technology skills. It is about to help them securing jobs in the information and technology sector as a source of their livelihood.

Volunteer Work

The work with Kipepeo Community Empowerment involves giving free basic computer training to orphans and vulnerable youths in the community. The volunteers will offer training of Microsoft office packages which includes; introduction to computers, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Outlook, Email and Internet, making training schedules for the classes, offering assessment tests and grading. 

The volunteers will be involved in training the participants on how to use the projector, helping students prepare slides and presentations and presenting them in front of the other students in the class. Volunteers will also prepare notes and and save them for future use. Any additional information about computer, applications, coding language, and any other course materials will be welcomed. So that we can empower our community with more advanced information technology tools that meet the 21st century.

Typical day

Volunteers are expected to work five days a week between 7-8 hours

Typical tasks are:
  • Empowering computer skills
  • Giving lessons in Microsoft training
  • Offering assesment tests and garding
  • Helping students preparing slides and presentations

Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s). Of course, there is an exception for children that are accompanied by their parents.

Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 08:00 - 16:00

Free-time activities

During their free time volunteers can engage in recreational activities, like playing games, hiking in the hills, running sack races, visiting the Kakamega rainforest on a long weekend, going for a boat ride in lake Victoria, visiting Kisumu museum, going shopping and access to fast internet services in Kisumu City which is 30 kilometres from our project location. The volunteers can also  join music concerts for the night, going for safari tours in Maasai Mara National Reserve, visiting lake Nakuru National Park, climbing mount Longonot or making bike tour in Hell's Gate National Park.

Kipepeo Community Empowerment offers the volunteers accommodation and food( three meals a day)

Accommodation

It’s located near the organization office and you will stay with a member of KCEP, you receive your own separate room, the bathroom is outside the house. The house is equipped with electricity supply and water available on the tank.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. An airport pickup isn't included within the program fees either.

You can volunteer at the project site in Luanda/Kenya between 4 weeks and 48 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Kipepeo Community Empowerment will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Kipepeo Community Empowerment during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
