Work with families who don't possess sanitary washrooms. Help building dry toilets which compost the waste & let families use it as fertilizer.

There are a lot of things that many of us do not worry about and a toilet is definitely one of them. This is different for so many people living in the Philippines as 50% of the population lives in extreme poverty. They worry about how to put food on the table, where to get money to send their kids to school and yes, even a where to poo. Many of these families live in makeshift shacks and their “toilet” is the outside anywhere in the yard. We, at Radical Tourists, want to change that. Our goal is to build dry toilets for these families, so they too do not have to worry about where to poo. The amazing thing about these toilets is that they serve a multi-purpose; they save water, they provide shelter for toilet and they also produce fertilizer. The families will be taught how to use their  as fertilizer for their gardens and if they do not have one, we will help them start it. Therefore, families will not only have a structure to go to “when nature calls”, ensuring their safety but they will also learn about sustainable gardening thus helping them to have their own reliable source of food

Airport Pickup at Puerto Princesa International Airport

There are two airports to choose from when coming to El Nido. One is El Nido airport with flights only from Manila and the other is Puerto Princessa airport. We will arrange transportation from both airports. Puerto Princessa City is a six hour drive from El Nido, we will organize a shuttle bus to pick you up from the airport.

Accommodation

You can choose between doing a homestay with a local Filipino family or you can stay in a beachside cabin. For homestay guests, you will receive a small single room with a twin bed. The homestays are a great way of getting to know a local family and fully immerse yourself in the culture. However, please note that the homes are very basic, with bucket baths, squat toilets and normally plenty of kids. For those wishing for a little more modern conveniences opt for the shared beachside cabins.
