Construction Worker

Construction worker is expected to handle on site construction works and supplies purchase runs.

A charity organization Health&Help is looking for Volunteer construction workers to be based in the village Chuinajtajuyub, Totonikapan area, Guatemala and help the project pro bono.

Health&Help is a charity project which raises money for the construction of a free clinic as well as aims to provide the local population in a remote area of Guatemala with medical services of high quality.
We operate in critical conditions: soon-to-be-finished clinical building with primitive equipment, but with quality medical supplies. We also run field trips to the remote villages in order to provide medical assistance.

In this role you will be expected to handle on site construction works, deal with supply purchase runs as well as help other volunteers. You should be able to provide professional advice on construction matters.

The responsibilities of the role include:
Maintaining various construction works
Purchasing and delivering medical supplies
Keeping the papers in order

Typical day

A typical day of a Health&Help volunteer consists of daily routine chores mainly: cleaning, cooking, construction supplies inventory. Whenever patients come, we are there to assist them with their problems. We organise field trip as well, in order to examine patients in the distant areas, where the transportation system is not that developed.

Construction workers are maintaining differents tasks, ranged from deeply specific (electric, water and construction issues) to simple and routine (cleaning, nailing, glueing, sawing). The clinic is almost done, so final decorative works are ongoing: painting, oiling, cleaning up.

Free-time activities

The most spectacular thing about Guatemala is its nature. The countryside is by far the most amazing thing we have ever seen in our lives. Guatemala is beautiful. While travelling, you watch the mountains getting shrouded with misty clouds. It feels as if you are on the National Geographic TV show –the weather’s changing every second as in high-speed shots. We are living in the jungle, surrounded by trees and bushes. There are banana trees in our garden; hummingbirds are flying around the hospital sipping nectar from the flowers.
