Anjali House

Creative Workshop Manager

Volunteers usually run our creative workshops with the assistance of our Khmer teachers. The workshops can be anything from arts and crafts, to singing, dancing, acting.

Volunteers will each be assigned a Khmer teacher to Shadow. All of our Khmer teachers speak English and are trained teachers. But the role of Shadow is a special one. A Shadow wears two hats — first as an Assistant, providing an extra set of eyes, ears and hands if ever needed. Second, the Shadow’s role is to observe. Each Shadow will be provided with a feedback form so that they can share their observations with the teacher at the end of their stay at Anjali. A Shadow does not need to be a trained teacher him/herself. A Shadow provides a different perspective so that new ideas can be discussed. The Shadow will also be able to observe the children, like a fly on the wall, and thereby might be able to see specific students in ways that the teacher might not have the time to see. Therefore, even if a teacher is holding a class in Khmer, the Shadow still plays a valuable role, as helper and as observer. Teacher training is a crucial, though costly, need in Cambodia. By providing Anjali House teachers with Shadows,  volunteers are providing an invaluable service.

Volunteers are responsible for the daily workshops at Anjali also. Workshops can be 50 minute long activities; can be run over a few days or an entire week. It is important that the kids not only have fun in these workshops, but are also provided with an opportunity to learn in a fun environment. Take your time and don‟t feel pressured to complete activities quickly. This can be stressful for you and also for the children.
