Daycare Assistant

Isabela Island, Ecuador show on map

Help children on the beautiful Galapagos Islands! Assist teachers with everyday activities and make a positive difference in the life of a child!

The Project

This project allows you to spend a few weeks on Galapagos Islands while volunteering at a day care center. The child care program that this project works through was set up to care for children whose parents are unable to care for them during the day due to work commitments. Oftentimes, parents in Ecuador are forced to work very long hours and still struggle to provide for the basic needs of their family. This project ensures that the children are cared for in a safe environment. The ages of children in at centers range from 1-3 years old, and there are around 40-70 children at the center.

The main priority of this project is to offer children a supportive service that helps with their educational, nutritional, and psychological needs. Although the centers are underfunded, they still create a friendly and warm atmosphere where children can learn and play daily.

This project is perfect for those who love to work with kids. As a volunteer, you will have an incredibly unique experience during this project and make a positive difference in the lives of many children. In addition, you will be surrounded by natural beauty, which you can explore in your free time.

Your Tasks

As a volunteer, you will assist other workers with activities at the centers. The centers are very understaffed, so there are often large groups of children supervised by one person.  Therefore, volunteers are crucial.

On a typical day, your tasks will consist of educating children, creating and participating in games and activities, painting/ other arts and crafts, helping feed the children, and cleaning the play area. It is vital that volunteers are responsible and positive influences because the children will see them as role models. Volunteers are asked to encourage good hygiene and manners.

Typical work hours for this project are 7:30 am to 1:00 pm. This may vary depending on the center you work for. Normally, volunteers have the afternoon off to explore or prepare activities for the next day.
