About the Program

Location Tanzania Start date: negotiable, Full Time Internship Compensation Voluntary position, accommodation provided, stipend after 6 months.

We want to aspire a place where people are creatively inspired within a hand reach to participate in an affordable and sustainable building culture.

We face a rapid changing building culture, due to modern influences, climate change and environmental policies. These factors lead to poor building qualities and living situations. This results to poverty and disastrous consequences for the environment. 

The team of architects will be working on four different branches from the organization: 

C-re-aid plus: you will be involved with the design and construction of several larger architectural projects. The projects are selected on their social value and contribution to research and the local community. 

Groundwork Project: You will be assisting in the evaluations of past projects and selection of future projects. In addition you will be assisting the guidance of students of architecture and volunteers with their construction projects. 

All-Round Project: You are responsible for the preparation, design, study and implementation of construction projects in Northern Tanzania. You will be assisting managing and mentoring our latest branch: Workshops.

You will work in Moshi, and in Nungwi, Zanzibar. You will meet partners in the Kilimanjaro region and go to construction site to conduct the previous designed projects.

You will be able to work side by side with the founder of the organization, the financial Manager, organizational manager, the NGO partner organisations and all the interesting people that cross our path. You will not only help the organization, but also be able to learn and experience to be part of the interesting and exciting processes that a growing organization is going through.

Typical day

Job Description:

  • Be flexible!
  • Organise and coordinate the summer projects with students of architecture
  • Design, manage and lead construction of C-re-aid projects
  • Bring in new ideas for the organization to grow
  • Represent the organisation in meetings with goverment and partner NGO´s regarding the projects
  • Assist on every possible level to make the organization grow
There is no typical day description as there are so much different things to do.
You will work in Moshi, and in Nungwi, Zanzibar. Daily hours are depending on the project. While designing, you mostly be at the office, while constructing, you'll be at construction site supervising and helping the whole process on site.

Free-time activities

There are lots of things to do in the Kilimanjaro region:

Off course there is a Kilimanjaro trip and several safari options. This is rather expensive but totally worth is when you are in Tanzania for a longer time. We have an office in Zanzibar so you will defiantly have the time to visit this subtropical island. There are several hikes who are not expensive at all. You can go around by bike, play tennis or golf. We are participating in a weekly running club and ultimate frisbee team. In our hostel, their is always time to have a beer or play volleybal among friends

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s).

Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:00 - 17:00

Services by C-re-a.i.d.
The fee is to cover half of the work-Visa you need in Tanzania, the other half is paid by C-re-aid.
Accommodation, cleaning lady, laundry service, cooking gas and electricity is covered in this fee.

Accommodation

Your accommodation is reserved at the C-re-aid house. All C-re-aid interns will stay together in this large house, where also the office of C-re-aid is. The accommodation offers shared rooms; there is a kitchen with fridge (where you can store and prepare your own food), 2 bathrooms, 2 toilets, a communal area and the office.  Laundry service and cleaning lady are included. You’ll find everything you need here and surely feel at home.

Our house is safe and secure and offers on site security throughout the night.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. An airport pickup isn't included within the program fees either. Food, snacks or beverages are at extra costs.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in Kilimanjaro. We assist you to find cheap flights to Tanzania.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Tanzania provides security and is a plus to have.

If you are intending to volunteer in Tanzania you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Tanzania.

Crowdfunding Service
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in Tanzania.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with C-re-a.i.d. during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
