About the project

Are you wondering where to go for your real experience of your study and your future career? How can you combine it with both volunteering to help local community and traveling ? “Ecotourism & Community Development internship” is the best choice for you. Via this project, participants will take a research trip in a hill-tribe village and its surroundings in the  Northwest Vietnam which is the most pristine beauty and biodiversity as well. Staying in a homestay with a local host family  working right on site in the tranquil settings, and experiencing all kinds of eco-tours with local people’s support, you will have a fulfilling experience in your study, and it also give you creative ideas in order to help locals develop their own business. 

Our mission is to offer a worthwhile internship program for youth all over the world, particularly, giving opportunities for students to experience with a real woking environment related to their field of study, challenge them with practical tasks and learn from case studies in a new land where they will be working with new people. We aim to  offer a good chance for volunteer to gain for personal development, develop their and profession. We also carry out the mission of  helping locals by giving volunteer’s initiative ideas from their research to improve eco-tourism and community development to locals

Your Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi city (Noi Bai airport)

This is the first day you arrive in Vietnam joining in our project. VVS staff will pick you up from Noi Bai airport and take you to your hotel in Hanoi. You are free at leisure.

Day 2

We will take a local bus to the homestay which it will be your home during your staying in  our project. After that, you can take a rest. If there is still time, we will have a short orientation at the homestay on the procedures needed for your stay and get involved in the project.We will show you how to be safe on the trip. Then, you will have time to visit and say hello to local people, visit the workplace and staffs whom you will be working with. You are at leisure to go for a walk around the village.

From Day 1 to the end of the duration (Working day only)

From Day 3, you will be working with the full-time support of Vietnamese staff members and will be involved in a variety of tasks that will be scheduled for you every day. You will join in researching the condition of eco-tourism system surrounding the village, work with local people and help them promote eco-tourism programs, help the family create full-packed information, improve home stay condition, doing online marketing to promote their accommodation … If you are an active working person, every things will run smoothly and you’re doing some thing that means a lot to the local community . it is very helpful for you to make a friendly way to work with local people, offer them the best you can and you feel happy with locals.

(Saturday and Sunday) During the weekend, you are at your leisure

You can choose to stay in Mai Chau and relax in a homestay, visit Mai Chau or Pa Co market, 1000 steps cave or travel off the beaten path to Pu Luong natural reserve. Depart from Mai Chau, you’ll have a good chance to trek remote and wondrous ethnic villages where you can gain a deeper understanding of local culture and traditions. It’s worthwhile to spend your weekend holiday in such a  fascinating, beautiful place like Mai Chau with so many things to see and do.

Your Final Day

You will a small farewell party with all your new friends to say goodbye, taking your final photos and pack your bag with full of souvenirs. You’ll travel back to the airport, or continue to further adventures elsewhere. The return transfer from your accommodation in Hanoi city to Noi Bai airport is not covered within your project fee, VVS is able to make recommendations and help you arrange a transfer if you want to. You should estimate US$12 for this trip.

Typical day

This program not only helps you achieve personal goals but also develop your future career. Via the program, you will work on real tasks, work directly with local people and local organizations, do the research and see through your own eyes how people live and how the nature is; applying what you’ve learnt from school to gain real working experience. You will help locals promote their accommodation, improve services offered to travelers and set up an itinerary and schedule for travelers. 

Your typical working day will look something like this:

  • 8:30 am: Wake up and have breakfast
  • 9:00 - 10:30 am: Working on marketing tasks
  • 12:00: Lunch and rest
  • 02:00 - 04:00 pm: Working on marketing tasks
  • 07:00 pm: Dinner

Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 08:00 - 17:00

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.

Airport Pickup

Airport pick up at Noi Bai airport in Hanoi: You will be picked up at the airport by a driver and transferred to your hotel in Hanoi. He will hold up a printed sign with your name on it. Please double check your belongings before getting on and getting off the car to make sure that you don't forget anything.


Homestay is basic with western style toilet and a hot shower. Based on your budget, we will find out which accommodation best suits your budget.

You can volunteer at the project site in Mai Chau/Viet Nam between 2 weeks and 8 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Vina Volunteer Service will tell you your final price during your application process.
Average Fees
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Vina Volunteer Service during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
