Malaysia, a colorful country best known for its beaches, rainforest and a mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and European cultural influences. You meet people from different cultural backgrounds live together in peace and harmony. Very often you observe a church is right next to a Hindu or Chinese Temples as well as across a Muslim Mosque. A really interesting exploration for volunteers who visit Malaysia for the first time to get the unique Malaysia Cultural Experience.
This program also offers an unforgettable experience for Elephant Conservation. This program aims to promote the conserve the beautiful jumbo mammals through efforts encompassing:

- Rehabilitation
You are invited to participate and provide a helping hand in the Elephant Conservation Program which is designed to protect and preserve elephant. Assist with various conservation activities and initiatives to protect, care for and save the beautiful animal.
Activities in the sanctuary also involves husbandry, enrichment, upkeep of the sanctuary which may include maintenance and construction. Volunteers are expected to follow guidelines when working around the elephants in order to ensure your safety and those of the elephants.
Typical day
1st Week
Monday Enjoy a tour in the morning followed by your Malaysia Program Orientation in the afternoon. This is a day full of useful information about the Malaysian culture, the Malaysian program while also familiarizing yourself with the local area and amenities
Tuesday You will be taken on a tour around local Churches, Mosques and Temples to gain an insight into the diverse cultures which lives harmoniously. This is followed by Bahasa (local) language lessons in the afternoon which will help you with basic daily conversations
Wednesday Start the day with local cooking lesson followed by community activities (playing with children, cleaning, painting and conservation awareness discussions) at a community centre in the afternoon
Thursday Learn how to make local handicrafts (making batik, book-marks, wood craft and baskets). This is a great chance to make yourself an authentic souvenir to remember your time in Malaysia and if you’re speedy you can make multiple crafts which are then donated to a local community who are in need these crafts for fundraising
Friday Spend the day visiting a very successful mangrove conversation site while also gaining an insight into the fishing village lifestyle
Saturday Free day
Sunday Transfer to Elephant Project Site, it's about 5 hours away.
2nd Week onwards
Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 1:00 pm, some days end later
Your day begin on the project wherein you get involved deep into various activities of the project. The work on this project is physical, and the heat and humidity add extra challenging layer to this. You will be carrying out a variety of tasks including husbandry, enrichment, construction and maintenance work. You will be treated as pseudo staff member in the program. You will be required for assistance wherever the need may arise at the sanctuary.

This project is available all year round with the start date on every Monday. Arrival on the Sunday prior to the start date.
Pick-up from Penang International Airport 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Free-time activities
During the weekends, volunteers have free time to relax and explore the local area or other parts of Malaysia. There are plenty of things to do and see near Taiping, including palaces and museums, trekking through national parks and caves, and relaxing in the city garden of Taiping. For those volunteers interested in traveling further afield, there are many great destinations to choose from, including Penang, Kuala Lumpur, and beach destinations, such as Pangkor Island and Langkawi Island.

It is advisable to arrive on the Sunday prior to start date. The arrival airport is Penang International Airport with the following detail:

It is possible for pick-up outside the time frame with additional fee, price on request.
The property is a typical house in Malaysia with 5 bedrooms conveniently right in the town which accommodates 18 people, additional 2 in common area. Right in the Town vicinity, walking distance 2 min to nearby restaurants, shops & Hospital; 5 min to cafe or train station; 10 min to shopping mall & cinema, police station; 15 min to Lake Garden & Zoo.
Upgrade to private room is possible price upon request.

Generally the meal is Asian typical rice and noodle being staple food. Option of vegan, vegetarian or gluten free

Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
The nearest airport is Penang International Airport (PEN) in Penang. We assist you to find cheap flights to Malaysia.
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Malaysia provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Malaysia you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey.
