Enhancing Learning Environments

4 weeks living alongside traditional communities in the stunning Moray and Colca regions of beautiful Peru.

About the Program

Experience the Peruvian way of life in the stunning Andes mountains.  You’ll stay in two of our camps during your month in Peru, both rural and rustic, with jaw-dropping views. Many people live below the poverty line in the rural highlands, so you’ll work on improving primary school and community facilities. Build greenhouses, plant seeds and saplings, and carry out workshops on healthy eating for the local children. Trek to Cruz del Condor to take in the unbelievable scenery and spot the world’s largest flying bird, the condor, soaring above you. The vibrant bustling cities of Cusco and Arequipa are yours to explore. A visit to the markets to pick up some Peruvian handicrafts is a must, as is sampling some traditional Pisco Sours. You will make a measurable impact on the communities you meet in Peru, their warmth and cultural heritage will stay with you long after you return home.

Day 1-2: Welcome to Peru! You will arrive into the ancient Inca city of Cusco, where you will be met by a member of our Camp Peru team and taken to your accommodation in the city. You have a couple of days to explore the fascinating city of Cusco!

Day 3: Today we head to our beautiful Camp Moray which is approx. 2 hours from Cusco. Camp Moray is set in The Sacred Valley, boasting some seriously impressive views. Upon arrival, you will meet our legendary camp staff who will show you around camp and the neighbouring community.

Day 4-8: Project work begins! Projects here are varied but largely focus around the local primary school. You will work with us on a number of initiatives to improve infrastructure and provide safe and productive learning environments for local children.

Day 9: We head back to Cusco early to enjoy another day in the beautiful city.

Day 10: Today we kick off the epic road trip (approx. 8-9 hours) to Camp Colca. The journey across the Andes is absolutely spectacular and we recommend a good i-pod playlist to accompany your stunning journey views.

Day 11-15: Once you’ve met the team and settled into Camp Colca, we will embark on your second project phase. Our work here also focuses on improving infrastructure at local schools. In addition, you will be working in collaboration with the wider community on a number of micro finance initiatives designed to promote sustainable livelihoods.

Day 16-17: We then travel across to the very beautiful city of Arequipa.  At some points on the journey the road reaches an incredible 4900 meters in altitude.

Day 18-22: We head back to Camp Colca to continue with our projects.

Day 23: Today we will set off early from Camp Colca and trek to Cruz del Condor, which usually takes 3-4 hours. This is one of the best places in South America to view the magnificent condor bird (the largest flying bird in the world).

Day 24-27: Back to our projects at Camp Colca.

Day 28-29: We leave Camp Colca and head back to Arequipa. You have a little time for some last minute shopping in Arequipa and a final meal before you depart from Arequipa Airport the next day.
