THE ROLE

Street Child is looking for individuals hoping to gain valuable experience in the development sector by undertaking an entrepreneurial volunteer role in Nepal from February 2018. This placement is a unique opportunity to make a critical contribution to an organisation that is setting up and scaling its efforts to enable children in Nepal to access education that is inclusive, sustainable and life-saving. Street Child Commercial was established in 2011 as a unique fundraising stream for Street Child in Sierra Leone. A series of shops and cafes in Sierra Leone create a sustainable source of income by turning profits which are then re-invested into projects. Street Child is currently seeking to create a similar model in Nepal and is looking for an entrepreneurial volunteer interested in leading this effort for anywhere between six to twelve weeks.

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn about the social enterprise sector through an immersive experience, and to make a lasting contribution to the organisation and its aim to empower children through education in Nepal.

THE CHARITY

Street Child's aim is to create educational opportunities for some of the world’s most vulnerable children. We began our work in 2008 in Sierra Leone working with a small number of street children, nine years later we have helped to transform the lives of more than 100,000 children across Sierra Leone, Liberia, Sri Lanka and Nepal. In 2017 we launched our first project in Nigeria helping children impacted by conflict in the North East of the country.

Street Child is currently expanding its operations to Nepal, in an attempt to serve increasing numbers of children in need. Street Child of Nepal has been working with UNICEF and partner organisations to support the humanitarian relief effort in the earthquake affected areas of Nepal and is now exploring avenues for further impact. As a volunteer, you will be part of an exciting stage of the organization’s growth, and will be working closely with the Street Child of Nepal team to support our emerging programs.
