NGO | Iracambi-1

Join the wide variety of ongoing projects we have to combat deforestation and promote social development, be a change, come armed with your own ideas!

Iracambi is one of a number of small non-profits working to conserve the priceless resources of the forest while improving the economic situation of the local people. Situated in the mountains of Minas Gerais, on the borders of the Serra do Brigadeiro State Park, this is your base to volunteer your time and talents, expand your horizons (and ours), and participate in the many exciting opportunities available to you here at Iracambi.

Our researchers and volunteers, supported by the local community, work to better understand the factors that lead to forest degradation and restoration. If you have a great idea and special skill, let us know and let’s see where your talents can best be put to work. If you would prefer to join our wide variety of ongoing projects we can promise you won’t be bored.

We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible, self-motivated people who really want to make a real contribution to our endeavour.

We have an international outlook but a local output and welcome people from around the globe to join us and help us do our part – get in touch to see how you can get involved in saving forests and changing lives!

Free-time activities

During the weekend, volunteers can visit the Serra do Brigadeiro National Park, climb the Graminha peak or the peak of Itajuru, walk in the forest that surrounds them or visit the waterfalls. Viewing wildlife is a common activity of free time and we thank for any photos taken of animals and the work of identifying them, in the center, we want to build a butterfly in the open air, and you can help us with that too. Our space has different trails that you can venture out. Our farmer friends can also let you take cow's milk or ride a horse. Volunteers can also organize dinners, movie nights or social events, just need to notify the volunteer coordinator. We love to exchange knowledge, especially about languages, and we have meetings and / or classes to teach Portuguese and learn English, so do not worry about language barriers. They can also travel to neighboring cities, get to know the state of Minas Gerais, visit the historic city of Ouro Preto, travel to Rio de Janeiro to see Christ the Redeemer, or take any other route of interest.

Our excellent cook Larissa serves 3 meals a day in the resturant they owns. Breakfast usually consists of bread, cake, biscuits, fresh cheese, fruit and coffee.
