General maintenance around the research station and the hiking trails, working in the organic garden
This project was established in 2009, it extends over 15 hectars of land right in the transition zone of the mountain rain forest and the tropical Andes. It is located in the region of Pichincha which is very well known by international biologists and researchers for its breathtaking flora and fauna. The project is a few kilometers away from San Miguel des los Bancos, no public transport arrives directly to the station so most people go by foot or car.
Like the station is located in one of THE hotspots of biodiversity in Ecuador, it makes the site home to a wide variety of animal inhabitants as well as a variety of different plants and trees. There are over 228 different types of birds, monkeys, pumas and other mammals living on the land of the project.
You will be working outdoors every day, this means that volunteers should be willing to do the physically demanding labour which comes with this project. Also bring a good amount of team spirit which is vital in creating a good fun working atmosphere. Your work schedule will be told to you on site with the project management team. The tasks vary depending on workload and weather.
On your typical day you will be tasked with: Keeping the station clean and well maintained, expand trails and clear trail paths, take care of the organic garden which is a major food supply to the project, also taking part in enviromental education lessons to visitors and tours.
If you have any other skills or ideas you would like to bring to the team then feel free, they are always welcome to new ideas!
