Equine Therapy Assistant

Preparation of horses for therapy sessions, support in therapy sessions, therapeutic management of the horses, entertaining young participants.

The project

This is a very unique opportunity for volunteers because you get to combine passion for horses and help children in need. You will gain valuable experience and an insight into the horse therapy treatment, this unique experience which appeals to multiple senses of the patient on different levels and leads to quicker therapy results. The goal is to train the coordination, orientation, and sense of balance of the patient.

This centre usually works with younger patients who suffer from down syndrome, autism, or other developmental disabilities. The therapy stimulates their senses which help develop and increase their capabilities.

Your work

On this volunteer work you will be assisting and caring for disabled people mainly children who take part in horseback therapy sessions. For this volunteer program no previous experience is required but it is an advantage if you know about horses and how to take care of them. You should be a sensitive, patient and responsible individual as you will be taking care of children.

Your activities on a day to day basis will include: supporting therapists in sessions while also leading the horses through sessions, entertaining young patients, maintaining the facilities such as cleaning, preparing the horses for the sessions.
