Fight against food waste

Travel with impact! Discover Lisbon traveling like a local and volunteer at the same time.

Do you want to discover Lisbon beyond its touristic sites?
This is an experience aiming to show travellers the true spirit of the Portuguese capital. Walk around the narrow streets of the old centre, visit authentic handicraft shops and taste the typical dishes which our grandmothers used to prepare. You also get the opportunity to see the hidden side of the city by volunteering in local social associations. Understand how people live by participating in volunteering activities and you will go back home with a totally unforgettable experience.

Example of a 1 day program

10:00 | Guided tour in Lisbon city centre

12:30 | Lunch at a traditional restaurant

15:00 | Visit a handicraft store

16:00 | Volunteering activity: Hunger and Food Waste
Volunteers will be integrated in teams and then collect food from restaurants and supermarkets (that otherwise would go to waste), prepare it and then distribute it to the people who need it. They can help underprivileged families or homeless.

1 million tons of food are wasted every year in Portugal. This means over 2000 kgs of perfectly good food per day go to waste, basically 30% of all the food we consume. This is a shocking figure as it would be enough to feed the 500 homeless of Lisbon everyday, the 9000 institutionalised children around the country or the 28 thousand isolated elders of the countryside.

We have partnered with several institutions which aim at breaking this cycle and recover food from restaurants, supermarkets and our houses, and distribute it among families who need it.
