Girl Power Volunteers

Increase level of knowledge on ending early marriage, train girls in vocational skills, and social networking skills messages to end such practice

This volunteer program is to have people willing with the spirit to serve, to improve the socio economic status of female-youth in special need, through vocational education and advocating for their right. This is a 3 years volunteering program but anyone can volunteer from 3 weeks to 3 years opening upon his/her schedule.

To increase the level of knowledge on ending early marriage and unintended pregnancy issues and family planning services including the right of about 1,620 female-youths for empowerment to make informed choices during the project period.

Provide counseling and psycho-social support to affected female-youths.

Provide vocational training and education to 630 female-youths aged 15-25 years in productive skills training during the life of the project for 3 years.

To initiate and establish Welfare Forum in case of emergency events and Employment Service for graduates.


Dissemination of information and Visibility of project through storytelling, workshops, campaigns, traditional news media, print and broadcast news outlets, social media activities such as Facebook, LinkedIn etc, involving boys with key messages to prevent further spread of Ebola virus disease, early pregnancy and early child marriage.

Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s).

You need to speak English (basic level)

No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.

Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:00 - 14:00

Free-time activities

Climbing mount Wusum and Mena, Bintumani in Kabala, attending music entertainment places are free, swimming timely at the Wusum hotel requires payment and sporting freely



What's included?
Volunteer fees pay for:
Registration Fee – ongoing support from staff, program marketing costs, information pack, administration costs, and travel costs to inspect programs and communication costs with volunteers.
Program Fee – airport pick-up, orientation, program supervision, accommodation and meals, in-country 24/7 volunteer support and in-country administration costs.
Additional costs for volunteer: Visa, flights, travel insurance (mandatory), vaccinations, pick and return.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.

No worries, Volunteer World supports you in raising funds, checking your visa regulations and travel insurance. We also assist you in finding the cheapest flights for your journey.
Airport Pickup

Our team will pick up and return any volunteer to the Airport.


All rooms are self contained and will be provided with wireless internet, water facilities and maintain good toilets. It will be secured and protected. Breakfast will be provided, but Lunch and dinner will be at the Volunteers expense. The electricity power is 100% with availability of electric fans and not air conditioners. Costs varies to according to the need of volunteers.

Breakfasts and Soft drinks will be provided but not Lunch and dinner. If any volunteer wants us to provide Lunch and dinner, it must be stated specially for such requests. Alcoholic drink will not be provided but any volunteer wishing to take such, will be directed to secured and protected near by Bars and restaurants.

You can volunteer at the project site in Makeni/Sierra Leone between 3 weeks and 50 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Child Help Sierra Leone will tell you your final price during your application process.
Average Fees
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Child Help Sierra Leone during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
