Global Exchange - Community Change 'Português/Engl

Building three communities: School by CCI, Family by Hosting, Social by Service

The program will bring together community residents, local and international volunteers to address the area’s most critical environmental and socioeconomic issues. The volunteers will be hosted by family and teachers residents in the community

The Global Exchange - Community Change Program is aimed at transforming the area surrounding a newly built apartment complex comprised of people who relocated recently from poor areas within the city. The main focus is on local residents coming together to transform their own community through participation in environmental projects, service, capacity building, cultural activities and educational initiatives link to the municipal and state schools systems.
The project fill up the vacuum and emptiness in the newly built community and provide positive activities that bring the community together. Thus inspiring a web of social connections and a strong sense of belonging and pride in the community. Some of the activities already realized involved: 

Service projects focused on environmental issues. Volunteers will build up 3 community vegetable gardens and 3 community parks surrounding the schools and community center.
In collaboration with partnering organizations and institutions we will host 3 community festivals with bazaars and performing arts. The bazaars will be held to raise money for the projects and community services
Participants will lead English lectures at the community center and school and door-to-door introduction and education on recycle garbage system.
Volunteers will travel to the capital city of Brazil, Brasilia, and meet at Federal Congress in cooperation with the cultural attaché of the countries represented by AIESEC international volunteers.

Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s).

You need to speak English (basic level) and Portuguese (basic level)

Letter of motivation and brief CV, reference can be from one of those: professor, teacher, university, parents, NGO and CBO

No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Other Skills
desire to link with local people, introducing the culture of the volunteer nationality in schools and cultural gatherings, acting in community service project, cooperating with youth group and CBO
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:00 - 04:30

Free-time activities

The volunteer will participate in social action with in the community, like on environmental program, restoration work in needed families like painting their homes, gardening. Teaching English or spanish. Presenting by power points, music, dance etc the culture of his country in the public schools and community events. Participating in local cultural programs, organized by our youth partners organization. Helping on the conflict resolutions activities, implemented in the public school and community, by our organization and our partners.Participating in the orientation program at the beginning of the program, capacity building training on volunteering, organizational development and evaluation meetings. Link with the university students volunteers and mentors from our organization. Cooperating with teachers and professors.

What's included?
200$ not refundable registration fee. The cost of stay according to locations and hosting family financial capacity, can be between 150$ to 300$ for each week
Airport Pickup at Santa Genoveva

The volunteers will be hosted by family located in the community were the activities are taking place, an interview is needed for the volunteers approval via Skype, with the project director

Food will be provided by the hosting family, volunteers will have free time for the weekends and coordinate with other youth groups trips, activities etc.

You can volunteer at the project site in Goiânia/Brazil between 2 weeks and 6 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Global Peace Foundation will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Global Peace Foundation during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
