The Uganda Medical Volunteer Placement encompasses a number of fields and medical professionals and students are sorely needed. This project aims to promote health awareness and to increase healthcare for rural people, decrease the prevalence of endemic diseases and improve village health by providing public health projects and promoting general health education and is ideally suited to individuals who come from a medical background.
Health and medical projects are so rewarding for volunteers who are interested in improving public health and supporting local clinics and hospitals. Become a volunteer today, and create positive change in deprived areas, as well gain hands-on work experience.
Volunteers in this field work in
health institutions— public or community health centres and hospitals; and
health camps for prearranged schedule— responsible to distribute medicine,
consult with citizens about health care, raise awareness of health and
sanitation in the community. Participant’s role can range from observational to
direct patient assistance, depending on their level of knowledge: outpatient
department services (OPD); mean cell hemoglobin (MCH)— blood tests checking for
anemia-based conditions; consultations; dispensing medications;
injections/immunization; community outreach; antenatal services; psychology and
social works; deliveries; and family planning etc.
As part of your experience, in the majority of our longer term projects, we give you the chance to take part in a range of different adventure activities.Uganda is a large and extremely diverse country in terms of both culture and nature. For three days you can undertake a safari that ushers you in the vast Bwindi Impenetrable National for Gorilla Trekking or the Murchison Falls National Park for Uganda Wildlife Tour or the famous Queen Elizabeth National Park for Uganda Bird Watching, or the Kibale National Park for Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking. You can also take a journey for Cultural Tour from Central to Eastern Uganda, to tour Kampala the Capital City of Uganda, Buganda and Busoga Kingdom, or to Western Uganda, to tour Bunyoro, Toro and Ankole royal monarchy, tradition and culture. The adventures will provide you with a break from your project, a chance to see your host country from a different perspective, and time to maybe live out a few dreams!
When you arrive in your new country you will be met either by a member of ASTCF staff, or by a member of staff from your project. Either way we will make sure there is someone to give you a warm welcome and guide you through the transport systems to your accommodation.
