Health Care Assistant

Work in a public health center giving medical care to poor people.


This is a public Health Care Center which gives its services to the population who does not have enough economic resources for them to pay for the medical services in a private Hospital.

This Health Care Center counts with the following areas: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Emergencies, Pediatrics, General Medicine, Community Medicine,Vaccination and they also count with a Dental Care Center. 

Everyday this Health Care Center gives attention to approximately 300 persons every day. At this Health Care Center there are 18 doctors that give attention to the patients in the out patients clinic.

Moreover, this health center works with schools and day care centers from the area by making campaigns the area of vaccination and they also make dental cleansing treatments to the kids.

  • Help in the application of injections.
  • Fulfill the medical file of the patients and the medical prescriptions.
  • General checkup to the patients (blood pressure, measuring body temperature, check of the weight).
  • To help by cleaning and suturing minor surgeries.
  • To give help in the medical brigades and to give support to the children as well as to the families from kids who suffer of malnutrition.
  • To help in the vaccination campaigns against the hepatitis, measles, and chickenpox

Free-time activities

Volunteers usually visit the town centre which has a lot of museums and beautiful churches. Besides museums and churches, volunteers can also visit the Teleferico in Quito. It is a cable car that leads you just a few hours on foot the Pichincha volcano. Another touristic atraction that is located near from Quito is the Pululahua crater. Volunteers should also visit the Panecillo and the middle of the world monument . Other touristic places that we recommend are Quilotoa lake, San Pablo lake, Cotopaxi national park ,Antisana ecological reserve, Otavalo,Mindo, and Baños.

Airport Pickup

One person of the NGO ( Laura Córdova or someone in charge) will pick the volunteer up. It will take 45 min from the aiport to the host house, but it depends on the traffic.

You can volunteer at the project site in Quito/Ecuador between 4 weeks and 12 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. New Horizons Ecuador will tell you your final price during your application process.
Average Fees
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with New Horizons Ecuador during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
