Health Outreach Coordinator

A volunteer(s) is needed to design, manage, and implement health training and/or outreach programs in our local community.

Helps International (HINT) has run health outreach programs in the past, thanks to the work of volunteers experienced in the medical profession.  HINT does not offer permanent health or medical programs, but instead relies on the support of volunteers to host short-term training programs.  Historically, most of HINT's programs have focused on HIV/AIDS prevention, as it remains a critical problem in Cameroon.  It is estimated that 5.4% of the population of Cameroon is HIV positive.  That represents approximately 510,000 people, 43,000 of whom are children.  Roughly 240,000 children are orphaned in Cameroon due to AIDS.

However, HINT will also host medical professionals interested in running seminars or clinics on other issues, such as malaria, nutrition, etc.

HINT expects volunteers to contribute their knowledge and experience to either train the local community or to set up temporary clinics to treat illness.  In return, HINT will provide knowledge of the local community to help the volunteer manage his/her project in Cameroon by facilitating access to materials, human capital, clinic/seminar location, local partners, and transport throughout the community.  HINT will support the volunteer in fundraising if it is necessary to raise funds/equipment to support the clinics.

These programs may last as long as the volunteer wishes.  In the past, most programs have run for about one - two weeks.  If you are interested in working with HINT to develop a clinic or seminar, please contact us with your initial thoughts.  We will be happy to work with you to develop your program.

NOTE:  Developing these programs is an excellent opportunity for young medical professionals interested in boosting their resume and experience or in having a direct impact on global health.  HINT will gladly work with a student's university to validate the program for internship or academic credit.
