Help Rescued Dogs

Quito , Ecuador show on map

Feed, bathe, train, and play with the dogs that have been rescued from the streets. The dogs are now used to provide therapy for children with disabilities.

The Project

This program was created by a woman who had originally started providing animal therapy for children with special needs (down syndrome, cerebral palsy, blindness, autism, etc.) in one of the biggest parks in Quito. Over a period of 10 years, she has accumulated more space to not only help more children, but take care of more animals as well. She now cares for a total of 15 dogs and some horses, which are incorporated into the therapy provided to children with special needs.

Originally, the current owner of the project started out with a very small handful of animals, but due to its effectiveness, the project has now become one of the most popular in the area. As a result, the project is in desperate need of more volunteers who can provide hands-on assistance and contribute to the ongoing success of this great cause.

This outreach project would not be possible without the help of many dedicated volunteers. In order to continue its efforts in helping children with special needs and taking care of the animals that are involved in their therapy, the project needs as many volunteers as possible.

There are no specific requirements for this job. The project’s owner simply asks that its volunteers have a genuine love for animals and an enthusiasm to help wherever it is needed. By volunteering, you will help improve the lives of each dog you work with and make the future for homeless dogs in Quito brighter. If you happen to have any veterinary experience or are a vet student, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Typical day

As a volunteer, your typical day will consist of taking care of the dogs by feeding, bathing, and playing with them regularly. You will also help maintain and improve the facilities by cleaning, fixing cages, and carrying out other small tasks.

Some days, you will help train the dogs that have been rescued from the street by teaching them basic orders and how to walk on a leash. This task requires a lot of love and patience.

Free-time activities

In your spare time, there are many different activities to choose from due to your proximity to Ecuador's capital city and the interesting and diverse landscapes that surround Quito. In the capital you can regularly find live music, a variety of sports facilities, and many hiking trails that feature some of the most breathtaking views in the country.
