Help take care of street dogs and support rescue activities in Chile. Find a new home for helpless animals. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:

About the Program

Combine your passion for animals and desire to give back to society by improving the unfortunate situation of abandoned street animals in Santiago. During this volunteer program, you can help look for a new safe and beautiful home for stray dogs and cats.

The program is managed by a local NGO in Santiago de Chile that aims to improve the situation of the animals living on the streets. Due to the amount of work that it takes to keep the program running, the help provided by volunteers is always greatly appreciated.

The streets of Chile's capital, Santiago, are unfortunately characterized by its stray dogs and cats that are constantly roaming around. They often eat rotten food from the garbage, which results in dire health conditions and diseases that go untreated. In addition, many of the animals have untreated wounds from fights with other animals or injuries that have been caused by humans. As a result, many of the animals are left to suffer with excruciating pain until they pass away due to starvation, disease, or an unnecessary accident, such as being struck in traffic or killed by another animal.

Luckily, there are many people in Santiago with big hearts who work to rescue and protect these helpless animals. Locals work with volunteers from around the world to help improve the situation of animals that are currently living on the streets. Their main goal is to care for the dogs and cats until they are healthy enough to find a new home with loving owners through adoption.

Your Role as a Volunteer

To be a volunteer for this project, no previous experience is required. However, volunteers should feel very comfortable working with cats or dogs, as they are the main focus of the project. Volunteers should be passionate about taking care of animals.

Your tasks as a volunteer may include: Caring for street dogs and cats (bathing, combing, taking dogs for walks), cleaning cages, administering drugs, supporting sterilization procedures, assisting in rescue operations, distributing food for animals on the street, public relations and educational work, maintaining websites, helping to raise funds, etc.

Before starting your volunteer work project, you will receive an orientation from our local staff. One of our team members will accompany you to your volunteer site on the first day (Santiago only).
