Supporting local school children with solving their homework tasks and giving them afternoon lessons in sports and cultural issues
We are looking for passionate volunteers who want to assist in supporting a group of local school children with solving their daily homework tasks. On weekdays every afternoon we take care of a varied number of children aged around 3 to 16 years in general.
Like as usual in Peru mostly they have to do a lot of homework tasks. We provide them as much help as they need to be able to solve their homeworks in all different school subjects. While supporting the children we want to improve their level of education as well as to enhance their self-esteem. By working together with volunteers from around the world the children also gain intercultural experiences and they can strengthen their social skills.
We look after the children at our home place for about 3 hours every weekday afternoon. Our house is located in the district Chilca of the city of Huancayo which is situated in the Peruvian Central Andes.
When the homework tasks are done we used to play some outdoor games together with them at our large and safe courtyard. There we are able to play volleyball with them, to do other sports activities or to give dancing classes to them. Besides that we have a small library where are many books that can be read to the children. Furthermore it is possible to do handcrafting, painting or cooking together with the children. If you like to you are welcome to introduce new activities or games to the children. They are always keen to learn about new games or other activities and they love getting attention.
We provide accommodation including a bedroom, breakfast, lunch with a hot meal and a tea for dinner from Monday to Friday at our family home which is located near supermarkets, markets, banks and various touristic attractions. We are situated near many bus routes and we are only a 15 minute bus ride away from the city center. At the house we have warm water, Wi-Fi, laundry, touristic advice, access to a kitchen, living room and a safe place for your bike or car.
