Travel into Queensland where you will help care for “unwanted, neglected, abused and slaughter bound horses,” aid in their rehabilitation and find a lovely home for majestic animals.

Volunteers are needed all year round to assist with the many tasks and activities at the horse sanctuary in order to keep it open. These beautiful creatures need to be groomed, fed and rugged, the paddocks need to be cleaned and stables need to be mucked out. As a volunteer, you will take part in all these tasks and much more. To be a volunteer, you must have horse experience and commit to a minimum of at least three weeks. Please note that some of the work involve physical hard work and is by no means an easy holiday option. Great opportunities to explore Queensland, Australia on your days off!

The volunteer project is in south-east Queensland, Australia just 40 minutes from Brisbane CBD and 30 minutes from the Gold Coast. There are numerous opportunities to explore this beautiful region on your days off.

Volunteers will be working along other local and international volunteers as well as well trained staff who will guide you along the way. If you ever have any questions or concerns we are their to support you during your program. 

Typical day

Volunteers play a vital role in achieving the project’s goal which is to care for unwanted, abused and neglected horses, aid in their rehabilitation by giving them the much-needed love to these animals that have suffered abuse and neglect in the past. As a volunteer, you will at times get your hands dirty but the reward of seeing a horse benefit from your input will be worth it. Please remember that the animals are your number one priority while you are at the project. If you are uncertain of what to do, you can always ask for help. Every day, you will help prepare and distribute feed and hay, rugging/unrugging, give water to the horses, medical checks etc. The rest of the day is spent grooming, assisting the vet, paddock cleaning and other related horse activity. In general, volunteers help out in the most or one of the following areas:

  • Horse Care
  • Paddock Cleaning
  • Auto Mechanics
  • General Maintenance

There are no specific start dates for this project however, we recommend that you arrive on a Monday.

Volunteers have a wide variety of leaisure time activities. They can go sightseeing, visit the beautiful beaches, learn to surf and there's also night life!

Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Airport Pickup at Brisbane Airport

You will arrive in beautiful Brisbane International Airport where someone from the project will be meeting you and will then have you transferred to your accommodation.

Accommodation

Your accommodation will be a shared house with the Sanctuary Manager. There will be internet, kitchen and laundry facilities as well as transport available to get to the shops to purchase food. The accommodation is a large nice large farm house with shared bedrooms and washrooms. The house has a large living-room, Balcony and kitchen.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. Food, snacks or beverages are at extra costs.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Brisbane Airport (BNE) in Brisbane. We assist you to find cheap flights to Australia.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Australia provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Australia you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Australia.

Crowdfunding Service
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in Australia.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment must be made up to 30 days before to the volunteer program starts. This payment is also securely handled by PayPal or credit card.
