Horse riding school & Rehab Assistant

Geneva, United States of America show on map

Non-profit | Fronteering Travel

This project focuses on horse riding training as well as rehabilitating abused horses. You will be able to improve your horse-riding skills and help with a great cause!.

Our Training School for Riding and Rescue Horse Rehabilitation is a unique training experience open to all students, new and experienced, aged 18 and over. The Trainer has over 30 years of experience in the field. He is accustomed to training and starting colts and has worked with a number of abused and challenging horses, including American Mustangs. These are horses that require a patient, thoughtful and consistent approach. The Trainer piloted the Training School last summer with ten students from across Europe.

The goal of the Training School is to enable the students to rehabilitate rescue horses while they learn safe horsemanship, helping these horses find forever homes. Classes are designed for a maximum of six students covering the fundamentals of horsemanship from safe groundwork, riding, body control, successful communication and critical evaluation of their horse, and of themselves. Keeping the groups small ensures that each rider gets a rich, personalized experience, with opportunities to build on existing knowledge. A strong emphasis is placed on consideration for the rider and for the horse. Lessons are taught in the Western style of riding making the training School a uniquely American experience.

This is Why
  • Unique opportunity to enhance your knowledge of horsemanship while engaging in meaningful rehabilitation of rescued horses and training of wild horses.
  • Help train and shape the horses into a lifetime companion for people!
  • Endless amount of time spent with the horses and horse riding!
The Center is located 40 minutes from Orlando in the sunshine state of Florida! Famous for Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, Kennedy Space Center, a National Seashore and lots of wildlife this location is great for those wanting to have the best of both worlds. The Rescue Center is located in an area between forests, lagoons and the ocean. There are great opportunities to watch wildlife, visit magnificent beaches or go to the popular attractions on your days off.

Their are no specific requirements for this program except for having a positive attitude.

Typical day

Each student will be assigned one horse that is theirs to work with, care for and train during the duration of their stay. There will also be other horses being cared for at the Training School who may be made available for groundwork or special exercises, depending on the needs of the students and the horses. The ability of each horse and rider is completely unique and therefore students should come with an open mind and be prepared to train a ‘green’ horse, teaching the basics which are often overlooked in other training programs. Some of your responsibilities include:
  • Caring for sick injured horses
  • Ensuring horses has food and water
  • Brushing horse, inspecting teeth and hooves
  • Washing gear
  • Unsaddling horses
  • Haying
  • Cleaning stables
