Ikhwezi Skills Development

International Life Skills & IT Training Courses for underprivileged youth between 18 and 35 who want to improve their chances of gainful employment.

Ikhwezi assists underprivileged youth in finding gainful employment.  Volunteers are needed to assist the team in a facilitating role.  The Ikhwezi Campus is in a rural area, but it is well-established and secure thanks to many donors that provided funding for the building and IT equipment. Ikhwezi could host 300 students and there is an obstacle course and recreation area as well.

The youth of the area grow up in families that are affected by the HIV / AIDS epidemic, conflict, violence, and gender and ethnic discrimination, which as a result already puts them at a disadvantage. The challenges children and young people regularly face are many, and require more than even the best numeracy and literacy skills. Around the world, Life Skill Training (LST) is being adopted as a means to empower young people in challenging situations.
The LST Course covers topics like job preparation, careers, goal setting, communication and entrepreneurship to name a few.  The IT Training Course is based on an Internationally recognized Hewlett Packard Computer course covering Microsoft Office, Word and Excel, Power Point Presentations and using the Internet. Volunteers should have an enthusiastic energy about them, with a positive outlook on life, love to work with people and strive to encourage those that very often have lost hope.
Volunteers will start off as facilitators to the teaching staff of Ikhwezi, but depending on their energy, abilities and skills could become more hands-on with the students and even lead classes. There is a curriculum already prepared and with the assistance of the on-site staff, volunteers will be guided the entire time. Anyone with a passion for teaching and basic understanding of computers will do well as a Volunteer at Ikhwezi.
At least 30% of the youth that complete these courses find gainful employment, which is higher than what the local government education provides.
