Indigenous Children Day Care

Care of children between the ages of 1 to 6 years, plan recreational and educational activities, assist in feeding the smaller children

The project

This project was set up to take care of children who are part of low income indigenous families who have moved to Quito in search of jobs, with many ending up in a worse situation than in there previous communities. The parents usually work full time in the market outside the city center, this means they can not look after their children. This center enables families to know that their children are in a warm and safe enviroment.

The main objective of this project is to give the children care and to make sure that their educational, nutritional, and psychological needs are met. The centers are very short on funding this is why volunteers are crucial to the centers staying open.

This project is perfect for you if you love children, it gives you the chance to help create a better life for them and their families, the experience will be one of the best you will ever have.

Your work

This job is very rewarding in the sense that you get to see the difference you have made to the childrens lives first hand!

On a typical working day you will be helping with daily chores such as cleaning, helping to feed smaller children, organizing and playing games, you will also teach them basic skills and manners. Volunteers should be very creative and if you have any ideas on how to teach or help the children don't be afraid to share them.

The resources in the centers are very low so volunteers are encouraged to bring in materials themselves to help the kids learn and play. We ask volunteers to be aware that they will become a role model to these children during there time there. So all behaivour should set as an example to the children.
