The idea behind the Center is to provide children with a place in which they can be free to interact with one another and express and persue their interests.
The Habiba Learning Center
Key to our vision here at Habiba is our Learning Center, which is located on our farm in Nuweiba. We currently provide an after-school education program for local children aged between 5 and 13 years. The academic subjects which we cover include Arabic, English and Math. We believe strongly however, in a teaching that is beyond the books: skills and life-lessons. In virtue of this, many of the activities we run involve subjects such as: Music, Art, Ethics, Social Responsibity and caring for one's environment. We invite the community children to get involved in the farm and teach them the importance of producing healthy food.
Teaching and Other Activities
We are devoted to the concept of Applicable Education. We teach Geometry through lego and meccano, Biology through observing plants and animals, Math through functionally applied methods (using recyled materials). The Learning Center is also dedicated to advancing the particular skills or interests of each individual, and encouraging development of these skills.
The idea behind the Center is to provide children with a place in which they can be free to interact with one another and express and persue their interests. We are convinced that it is important for children to have a positive and practical environment in which they can explore the world, learn and develop their skills. It is everybody's responsibility to create this enviroment for them.
We are keen on teaching how to manage resources efficiently and how to reduce waste. It is essential for children to understand that the world they live in is not only for them but for the generations to come as well.
We hope that our vision and goals will be an inspiriation to Nuweiba and to the rest of the world.
Volunteers will work six days per week. They will assist Lorena the program manager with preparing the school program and teaching two and haft hours per day.
While you're volunteering, we will help you pursue other subjects that might be of interest to you, we believe that you should learn like a student and live like a tourist as much as you work.
A good example is joining the Habiba Camel Riding School, which will offer you the standard three-day camel riding course that will teach you how to feed, load, and ride your camel in a professional manner. The course entails a list of survival skills such as following the starts for directions, learning about dangerous plants, finding edible plants, and finding water in the desert. All instructors are Bedouin natives of the Sinai, all camels descend from pure Sinai breeds.
Furthermore there are numerous dive centers, which will be ready to offer diving courses.
The volunteers can also participate in yoga, meditation and have the chance to learn about hand-made crafts.
We provide volunteers with accomodation at the guest house in the farm or at Habiba Beach lodge on the sandy beaches of Nuweiba. Each room is equipped with beds, closets, sheets, and views the Aqaba Gulf. Habiba Beach lodge is in walking distance from the farm and the markets of Nuweiba. The farm is also equipped with a kitchen and two guest rooms. If volunteers prefer falling asleep while gazing at the silhouette of trees, the farm should be their top pick.
The meals are vegetarian and many components are from the organic farm . We also provide bottled water, hot drinks like tea or Nescafe (3 times per day) and fruits (served 3 times per week) .
You can also add 5$ per meal to get fresh fish, chicken or meat.
The chef at Habiba Beach Lodge can satisfy all of your culinary wishes, but any special reqirements should be communicated prior to arrival. Traditional Egyptian cuisine is our standard. Volunteers are free to cook their own meals with the ingredients provided by the Lodge or any other ingredients they wish to buy from local markets. The meals provided are mainly vegetarian to rhyme with our concept of farming and self sustainability. Our organic veggies from the farm make superb salads, soups and sauces.
