Mate & Teacher for Young People

Help young people who are underprivileged! Teach them english, help them with homework or organize free-time activities with them.

About the project

In one of Quito's largest parks you will find this community center which works with children and teenagers. For the children the center is a safe place where they are given lunch, a hug, personal support or clothes if necessary.

In the mornings there are about 50 children in the age between 5 and 12 years coming on a daily basis to the project. They are from families with little income, who are struggle with their financial situation.

The afternoon is the time of the teenagers and young adults (from 13 to 25 years). They are offered one meal a day, assistence to find a job or a home for themselfes. Many of these young people are living on the street, dependend on drugs and very poor professional options. The idea of the center is to help these kids to find a way out of poverty and drugs, working with former street children who perform workshops and activities.

Your tasks

  • Prepare and serve lunch
  • General maintenance of the center
  • Play games with the children
  • Doing sports in the park with the children and the youth
  • Organizing (educational) activities and program on your own

On your first working day you will get a introduction to the project, which includes a city tour, information about the project and important topics for your stay in Ecuador.

Have in mind that the contact with children and teenagers who experienced such difficult situations could be struggling for you. You need to be very patient, dedicated and full of empathy.
