Delhi is located in Northern India, comprising Old Delhi and New Delhi, and is one of the largest and fastest growing cities in the world. This bustling metropolis is a true reflection of the meeting of the old and the new, and offers an array of exciting things to do and places to see. 

As the capital city, and main gateway to India, Delhi is made up of spacious, tree-lined avenues, national institutions, museums, landmarks and chaotic markets or bazaars. With an incredibly rich history, a vastly diverse number of ethnic groups, and stunning temples, the capital of India has become a popular destination for all types of travelers. 

About the Project

As the name suggests, the medical internship program in Delhi is a great platform for medical students looking for international work experience. Interns joining this program will be placed at a local private hospital well equipped with modern medical facilities and, a team of highly experienced and renowned doctors. The placement hospital is at a close proximity to the home base accommodation. This program fulfills the objective of providing international exposure to medical students in India and the Indian medical practices.

Internship work

As an intern on this project you will  work alongside an experienced medical practitioner while they carry out their daily routine. You will need to select 3-4 potential preferred departments from the following list in which you would like to be based. These include:

  • Emergency
  • Blood Bank

  • Radiology/Imaging
  • Operation Theatres
  • Dialysis Unit
  • Critical Care
  • General Wards
  • Orthopedic
  • Nursing
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Physiotherapy

During your time on the project you will shadow doctors and staff from your chosen department. The project tasks are primarily observational and your main role will be to work with and learn from the specific medical professionals you have been paired with.

To make the most out of your placement, it is very important to build trusting relationships with the local medical staff and remember to respect the method’s of medical practice and treatment you may be exposed to, as it may be very different from what you are used to.

Orientation Week (Optional):
For an additional fee you can extend your program by joining an immersive and interesting one week orientation program in Delhi prior to your volunteering start date. You will have the opportunity to visit Humayun’s Tomb, Lotus Temple, tour the the Akshardham Temple (the largest Hindu temple in the world), take Hindi language classes, learn about India's unique culture, watch a Bollywood movie, and eat at an authentic Indian restaurant.  This is a fun opportunity to familiarize yourself with the country and meet other like-minded interns from around the world.

Important Notes

You should to apply to this project at 1 - 2 months before your chosen start date in order to ensure that you have enough time to obtain the proper visa.  The visa process is lengthy and can take up to 2 months.

Typical day

You will typically work from 9:30 - 16:00,  5 days a week. Your hours may vary according to the the availability of the doctor you have been paired with as well as your assigned tasks.

Independent travel
During your time on the program you are encouraged to make the most of your time off and explore all that India has to offer. Delhi is strategically located within close proximity to some of India’s best weekend getaways including 
  • Agra (home to the Taj Mahal)
  • Jaipur - the Pink City of India
  • Dharamsala (residence of his holiness, the Dalai Lama)
  • Jim Corbett National Park
  • Haridwar (best place to practice Yoga and experience a pious environment)
  • Amritsar (Home to The Golden Temple; the holiest shrine of Sikhism).

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s).

Airport Pickup at Indira Gandhi International Airport

We will pick you up at the airport upon arrival.


You will stay in shared, same gender rooms, in one of three intern houses in the South of Delhi. The accommodation is within close proximity to some of the best markets in the city. Living is comfortable and intern houses have electricity, WiFi and hot water.


Dorm Room Guesthouse
Food & Beverages

2 vegetarian meals are provided daily. Breakfast is usually comprised of tea, bread, butter, jam and paranthas (Indian bread stuffed with vegetables). Dinner is usually comprised of dal (lentil curry), mixed curry, vegetables, salad, roti (Indian bread), and fruit. Interns can purchase their lunch at the cafeteria in the hospital itself.

Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in Delhi. We assist you to find cheap flights to India.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for India provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in India you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for India.

Average fees

You can volunteer at the project site in Dehli/India between 2 weeks and 8 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. GoEco will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Crowdfunding Service
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in India.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with GoEco during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
