New Hope For Disadvantaged Children

Arusha, Tanzania show on map

Children getting free education & care in a kindergarden. Support them with your time & love. This project is part of an NGO which was founded by a former street child.

The Project

“New Hope for Street Youth of Arusha” was founded by the Tanzanian Ayubu Kazana in 2013. Ayubu's parents died when we was very young and he was raised without them. He got his primary education in Kenya and only went to secondary school in Tanzania. Currently he is working as a medical representative and wants to support children and youth in need. The German association "Hilfe für Afrika Hilden e.V." ("Help for Africa") under Engelbert Kremers supported the young adults with health insurance, renting land and an office and donated sewing machines.

Ayubu is also supervising two other projects within the NGO. "New Hope For Disadvantaged Young Men" and "New Hope For Disadvantaged Young Women" can be found on Volunteer World as well.

New Hope Kindergarten

In this kindergarden 25 children at the age of three to six years are being supervised and educated. The children are coming from the nearby poor neighborhood of Arusha Town. Only half of the parents can afford to pay the little contribution they are asked for in order to help the kindergarden running and to provide basic care. The children are being taught in the subjects English, reading, writing and mathematics.

Your Work

It is possible to shift between the different projects within the NGO. In general setting up a website and doing fundraising can be an essential part of your work. In particular you will support the teacher in their every day routine like teaching and taking care of the children. You can conduct different activities according to your skills and interest and help to let the kindergarten grow. We will support you during your time of volunteering. New Hope is always looking for people, who bring along motivation and new ideas and are not scared of the challenges, which might occur.

Previous knowledge

You don't need any previous knowledge but it could be helpful if you have a background or interest in child care, teaching and/or fundraising.

Typical day

At around 8:00 am you will leave the volunteer house in the green area of Mianzini by foot and public transport and you will arrive at the kindergarten at around 8:30 am. You will support the teachers or teach yourself depending on your skills and interest and the plans you made with Ayubu, the founder and director. You might do handicraft, colouring or various other things with the children. You will work until around 12 noon. If interested you can help out in the NGO's other projects or create a website for “New Hope”, do fundraising, etc. in the afternoon.
