Help with the various management and administration tasks of Otra Cosa Network, a small non profit NGO attracting volunteers from around the world
Otra Cosa Network is both a UK Register Charity (No. 1133680) and a Peru registered NGO (11126841), helping community projects to improve local people’s quality of life through volunteering in Peru.
Founded in beautiful Peruvian northern coast in 2004, Otra Cosa Network has been offering personal development and an affordable and rewarding volunteering & cultural experience to international volunteers, as well as offering our local network projects professional services through well motivated, carefully selected, well supported volunteers. Our mission is to continue, grow and develop a low cost, high quality, full service volunteer agency, offering volunteers personal development and an affordable, satisfying and rewarding experience while offering volunteer organizations a professional service supplying well motivated, carefully selected, well supported volunteers.
We need volunteers to help with essential tasks such as marketing, updating info folders, writing and sending out quarterly newsletters, etc. By doing this you are indirectly helping all the projects we support, as they wouldn’t have a flow of volunteers through us unless Otra Cosa Network was working smoothly and efficiently. Also, once you've worked here a little, you may be able to suggest ideas for improving our practices - we are willing to learn! Volunteers can combine working on this part time with some part-time work on one of their 'front line' social projects.
Volunteer Roles/ Working Hours:
As an office volunteer you will work under direct supervision of the Operations Manager. Office hours are from 9am to 1pm from Mon - Fri. Volunteers are requested to commit 20 hours per week, and working hours and the dates can be coordinated upon arrival (flexible).
Volunteer tasks include (vary depending on the skills and the interests of volunteers):
- Be in charge of editing and sending out quarterly newsletter
- Assist inductions/ walking tour for new volunteers
- Help update the contents of our website on project/ accommodation description
- Help update our info materials for volunteers (i.e.specific info on each project, info pack, Huanchaco map, etc)
- Design OCN T-shirts
- Organize travel info around Trujillo for volunteers
- Assist getting volunteer evaluations and exit interviews at the end of their stay
- Help out with marketing, research, etc
- Office volunteer must bring their own laptop for the work. We don't have any extra computers! There is wifi internet connection in the office.
We also welcome any suggestions to improve our processes or administration to better serve the projects we work with and support the volunteers who come here. This could come from your practical day to day work here, or from any background you have in administration, IT, HR or business or voluntary/charity sector experience.
Huanchaco is a beautiful coastal town where the waves are perfect all year long, for all types of surfers. Huanchaco is surrounded by some mountains where it is possible to go hiking (tours are arranged by local guides, at reasonable prices). Furthermore, there's a beautiful white mountain range, the cordillera blanca, situated in Huaraz, fairly close to Huanchaco (9h bus ride), which offers a good many hiking and climbing possibilities in the most fascinating landscape.
If you prefer cultural activities, we are a few minutes away from the Chan Chan and Huaca del sol y de la luna, which are among the most well-preserved temple ruins of the old Incan empire that can be found in Peru.
The town of Huanchaco has a gym, and you can find some fields to play basketball and football close to the beach.
Given prior knowledge, OCN will arrange for their new volunteers to be picked up at the airport or bus station in Trujillo upon arrival and brought to their accommodation facilities in Huanchaco.
