Help us by expanding our wildlife database of photos and videos on flora and fauna of the Atlantic Forest and create videos and documentaries.
Are you interested or experienced with photography and/or producing videos? Create short documentaries about the birds we release exposing the horrific illegal trade of animals as well as recounting the process of their rescue and their release back into the wild at Celine. Create videos to promote the volunteer program by interviewing volunteers and filming their exciting weekend activities. In addition, you can help us by expanding our wildlife database of photos and videos on flora and fauna of the Atlantic Forest.
During your work at the organization, there is a good chance you will encounter wildlife. All volunteers are expected to support in our fauna monitoring; whereby, sighting of wildlife should be noted and hopefully photographed in an attempt to identify species living in the area. It is important to know what birds are already on the reserve, as well as identify their predators like the oncilla, to understand the natural competition they will face.
The Betary Reserve is situated about 6 kilometres from Iporanga. Iporanga is a small municipality in the State of São Paulo, founded in 1755 on the banks of the Ribeira de Iguape River and at the mouth of the Rio Iporanga. The name Iporanga of Tupi origin means "beautiful river". Iporanga has around 4,300 inhabitants and a total area of 127,700 hectares.
You will be working closely with our volunteer coordinator, the manager of FreeWildlife Brazil Celine and our other volunteers. We have partnered with IPBio (Biodiversity Research Institute), an NGO that also works on the Betary Reserve with whom we cooperate closely, to develop a joint volunteer program. Although you won't work directly with them, you will definitely meet IPBio's staff members and volunteers with whom we often do weekend activities and have dinner parties.
As a volunteer at FreeWildlifeBrazil Celine you work from Monday to Friday. A typical working day will range from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Depending on your interest and the necessity for photos or videos, your tasks will consist of (preparing the) photograph, edit photos, write scripts for videos, record videos and edit these videos into a video which we can share on our social media to raise international awareness about our organisation and the illegal trade of birds.
Our town is called the Cave Capital of Brazil so volunteers often visit our state parks to explore the caves. Hike into the dense forest and visits to waterfalls are also common activities. Tubing, big balloons, are used to drift down the rivers, some of the river route are 3 hours long! After work volunteers can swim on the reserve deck, organize dinners, watch movies, read and go wildlife watching. On the weekend we often have a barbeque or organize dinner at a restaurant. Often there are social events or parties in the community that volunteers can go to.
This fee covers the volunteer’s accommodation, internet access and project costs. However, you will need to bring your own equipment and camera.
Volunteers will stay at the Darwin Guest House, situated on the reserve itself, which accommodates up to 8 people in 2 rooms, together with IPBio’s volunteers. This house has a bathroom with a hot shower and has a fully equipped kitchen where volunteers can cook. Volunteers are expected to do groceries and basic cleaning themselves.
