Pre-School Education & Childcare Assistant

Volunteer to support these bright pre schoolers reach their educational milestones. Provide class room and childcare assistance.

Medi Trip has teamed up with a local Children's Foundation to give hope and a fighting chance to some of the most disadvantaged children in Arusha. The children are all pre-Primary school age and come to the Pre School centres for the special care and basic education needed for a good start to their future.

This project will focus on supporting the children reach their full educational potential as early as possible.

The centres we work with provide a place for the children to learn basic English & Maths, provide them with meals during the day and provide their families with social support where they can.

This is a vital community service these centres provide where local children can feel hopeful about their future, learn and grow.

Many of the children have special needs, disabilities and require extra class room support, additional psychological care and special education.

These are exceptionally bright and engaged children who have the support of passionate and hardworking staff fighting for their futures. But there is so much more to be done. Many of the centres are in need of full refurbishment and stimulating and educational toys and equipment is needed to progress these children. Much deserved funds are desperately needed to help the centres progress and reach their full potential. Educational toys, books, classroom materials and food donations are also what volunteers have contributed which have made a huge, long term difference to the children.

Your role as a volunteer will be to assist the staff meet the children's educational and social needs.

The children require alot of support and stimulation to learn throw play and social interaction. The centres mainly require classroom support and people who are enthusiastic, pantient and passionate about child development. The centres have also benefitted from skilled volunteers such as business managers, project managers, nurses, doctors and dentists.

Teaching: Experienced teachers are crucial as volunteers to deliver curriculum training and expertise as well as deliver teaching to the children. The children can already speak and understand basic English but more can still be done to develop them further. The children need continuous stimulation to develop their comprehensive skills and this requires passionate and motivated staff and volunteer  to continue their development.

General childcare: Supporting the care of the children day to day. Helping with meal times, overseeing the children, helping with the upkeep of the centre. Tending to their general care and play.

Project Management: The centres require alot of management support ensuring that it stays open. You can help by overseeing the weekly budget, fundraising, ensuring the centres are providing adequate meals, that the property is kept safe and clean.

Teaching first aid, assessment and delivering general medical care to the children. As well delivering small scale teaching and training to the local staff on first aid and general medical support. Young children are vulnerable to minor injuries and susceptible to sickness and require knowledgeable people who can attend to them quickly. The best gift you can give is training and demonstrating basic care to the local staff that can prevent the children from becoming seriously sick or injured. Basic training on infection control, sanitation and hand washing is also needed.

Assistants, students and interns are vital to help deliver the care the children required as the centre is also understaffed.
