Support teachers on tasks, teach english, create and play games, support psychology and social work
This project is run by a private non-profit organization. In recent years the level of poverty within Ecuador has increased, this has caused more and more families to become homeless forcing children to live and work on the streets of Ecuador. This project helps with a number of different aspects in Ecuador such as social work, cultural development, education, community work, and small enterprise development, these are done in the hopes of eradicating the extreme poverty which affects different sectors throughout Ecuador.
In this role you will be assisting teachers at a local pre-school and day care centre, the children who attend these are between the ages of 6 months to 5 years old, there are 3 classrooms in this facility each holding around 30 - 35 children.
The children who attend usually come from low income families, their parents usually moved to Quito from other areas of Ecuador in search for a better life. These facilities help that parents can work full time knowing that their children are cared for in a safe enviroment.
Volunteers are vital to projects like this, this is because they are very underfunded so they do not have the budget to hire an English teacher so volunteers are very valuable to these centres.
You will not only help with taking care and educating the children but also helping in psychology and social work by supporting children who are victims of abuse, and those who have little personalized attachments.
On a typical day your tasks will be to assist teachers during there classes, prepare and teach English, organize and paritcipate in games, assist children with homework and other activities.
There are many different activities for you to enjoy during your spare time in Quito such as a variety of different bars and restaurants which are great for socialising. You can also travel around Ecuador on your weekends off and experience its rich culture.
In this project you will stay with a local family situated very close to the facilities, you will live in a private bedroom, but with shared bathrooms and living areas, this is a great way to learn the countrys culture and learn spanish, most families have wifi access.
