We need someone/ some people who can teach in a Nursery class and Primary school in a rural area to provide basic education to the needy children
BUWEDDA Uganda, works within a community in Busia, where there was no school to provide basic education to the young children around the community. Hence in 2010, BUWEDDA sensitized parents and the community leaders on the importance of education to the children and future development. With continued encouragement and partnership, one community member donated land to construct on it a school.
BUWEDDA provided some financial support to buy iron sheets and community members came together to provide other building materials with labour and some semi permanent structures were constructed as classrooms and hence then, the school has 520 pupils from Nursery to primary Seven. BUWEDDA recruits and provides volunteer teachers in the school both local and international.
The volunteer teachers are provided with accommodation at the school and feeding. They serve for a minimum of 3 months which is at least one school term. We provide them with instructional materials which we collect as donations to equip these vulnerable children with education and parents are now being encouraged to contributed some little money and food towards the running of the school.
International volunteers work together with the local volunteer teachers to provide education to the children following the National Education curriculum which is available. we need teachers in all areas; English language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Writing/ Literacy and Physical education, Sports and games instructors and also in construction work to aid in construction of school classes.
After classes and during weekends, volunteers will take up tourism trips and also visit various sites within the community and around the country but this may involve some costs which are not catered for within the program fees. So volunteers will have to meet the costs on their own but will be assisted by the organization to negotiate for fair costs.
The volunteer will also have the opportunity to learn something more about the local cultures and lessons in the local language of their choice provided free by the organization.
The Volunteer communicates arrival time and the arrival time and the Airline she/he will be using in advance to assist us be at the Airport in time to receive them and drive them to the project site. At the end of your stay, we also drop you at the Airport.
