Private Clinic Medical Volunteer

Work in a private hospital in Accra, Ghana and help local medical staff deliver essential treatment to patients.

Teaching Hospital – If you already have some medical experience, you are eligible to work in Ghana's biggest teaching hospital. Your time in the hospital can involve a huge variety of work, including time spent in maternity wards, operating theatres and recovery wards. Watch and learn from local medical staff and, at times, offer practical assistance! A number of volunteers have had the experience of witnessing and assisting with the delivery of newborn babies and post natal care.

Private Clinic – We also run community vaccination & education programs teaching people about general health and hygiene, HIV & AIDS as well as pre-natal and ante-natal care. Support local doctors and nurses in their daily work and experience the medical challenges faced in a developing country first hand.

Community Projects – We run a variety of community projects in Ghana, including sports coaching, teaching, care work and working in underprivileged children's centres. You are welcome to build volunteering into your itinerary and we would welcome the support during your stay. This means you can combine different volunteering projects such as care work, sports coaching or teaching during your stay.  Make your experience in Ghana as meaningful as possible!

Explore Ghana – You’ll have plenty of time to explore the rest of Ghana! See lakes, national parks with elephants and tropical birds, waterfalls, monkey sanctuaries, beaches and more! The captivating places, intriguing people and diverse landscapes will make Ghana one of the most enlightening experiences a traveller could wish for. Sign up for our two weeks Ghana Experience program to hit all the hot spots and make the most out of your travels!

Free-time activities

Prepare yourself for some African drumming and dancing as you will have the opportunity to visit bars and restaurants to experience and learn the true culture of Ghanaian Dancing. There are also a large number of western-style pubs and clubs, including an Irish Bar, an American Sports bar and a series of dance-venues very close to where you are living. Also, if you fancy a football experience to remember, take a visit to watch the Hearts of Oak at the National Stadium where the locals wave flags, blow horns and dance on the roofs of the terraces. There are countless places beyond Accra to visit including Lake Volta (the biggest man-made lake in Africa) or the history-laden slave castles of Cape Coast and Elmina. You may want to take a walk on the wild side with the elephants at Mole National Park or spot tropical birds in the rainforest canopy at Kakum National Park. Then there is the 60-metre-high Wli waterfalls, the Buabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary (where monkeys are preserved as 'sacred' creatures!) and the endless palm-tree lined beaches of the Atlantic coastline.
