Psychology Assistant & Community Worker

You are working or studying in the field of psychology or psychotherapy and want to volunteer in order to help or advise them in their activities.

Important Notice: All communication for this particular volunteer program has to take place in Spanish language as the project manager speaks Spanish only. Thank you for your understanding! :)

Many kids and young adults from this community have extremely troubling childhoods filled with violence, poverty and drugs. The people of the organisation try to act as positive role models and help them as much as they can, but they are not experts in the field of psychology and need external help.

If you volunteer at Nicolas Avellaneda as a psychology assistant and community worker, you would work with the people of the community and help them work with the troubled youth. They are not professionals in this field so they would need you to propose new methods and techniques to talk to the youth and get them back on the right track and make something positive out of their lives. They really do not know hot to get through to them and really need professional help. They work with the kids and youth especially in the afternoons and try to do activities with them and talk with them. If you volunteer here, you would especially work in the afternoons and visit the kids and youth together with the people from the NGO. Together you will try to talk to them and organise activities that can help them.

Many other activities are organised by other volunteers and people from the community with the kids of the neighbourhood and you are very welcome to participate in all these activities and play with the kids.

There are many ways in which you can help this youth and the entire community if you have knowledge in the field of psychology. Be creative!

General Information

The marginal urban zones around Córdoba in Argentina are growing bigger and bigger and have been forgotten by governmental policies. More and more people are left without a proper job and thus entire families are falling into poverty without any sort of improvement in sight. Education in these communities is very poor and public schools do not have the infrastructure, staff and expertise required to cope with this ever growing population. This leaves an entire young generation without hope and perspectives for the future. This represents thousands of children that grow up without the proper tools and knowledge to find any professional opportunities. Unfortunately, these people often only find refuge in drugs and violence, leading to an environment that further drives the community into poverty, hopelessness and danger.

A project that gives hope: Out of this difficult situation, a small group of people decided to create hope for their community and created the Centro Vecinal Nicolas Avellaneda. They created a space where kids and young adults from the neighbourhood could go to in order to learn good values, keep off the streets and get the necessary  motivation to make something good out of their lives.
