Look after children, this includes games and activites on a day to day basis, as well as supervising them

The project

Working with various amounts of 50 to 150 children. These are split up into age groups with older children learning subjects for primary school such as English. 

This program shows a level of social engagement which is attractive to future employers, participents are fully exposed to the Costa Rican culture. This experience will help broaden your horizen and show you a whole new world gaining valuable life experiences along the way. 

Your work

On your first day at the center you will be welcomed in the Volunteer Centre whilst recieving a brieving of what you are expected to do during your stay. If you have any questions there is a volunteer representative on site to help you with any queries. After your briefing you will be escorted to the site and introduced to the project team. You are encouraged to volunteer full-day to build a good relationship and trust with the children. However, half-day volunteer positions alongside a Spanish course are also available.

Volunteer work in these projects may include: 

  • Organizing and participating in games and activites
  • Helping with the day to do operations of the institution
  • Improving the facilities
  • Providing care and attention to the children
  • Helping to nap smaller children
  • Supervise children during all actvities 

Pre-school children tasks could include:

  • Teachinng of maths and art
  • Helping the children learn very basic English skills
  • Preparing materials to help teach in lessons. 

Volunteers are very encouraged to be as creative as possible and using their personal skills in any way they can to make a difference. Volunteers can be as creative as possible to bring new activities to the institution which can be discussed with your coordinator

Minimum Age
In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s).

Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:00 - 16:00

Airport Pickup

Our airport service will collect you from the airport and take you to your host family.


Living with a guest family is a great way to really take in the culture of Costa Rica allowing you to get the most out of your experience. You will become part of the society and experience Costa Rica like never before. You will live in a single room sharing a bathroom and other living areas with the host family which is a great way to improve your Spanish skills.

You can volunteer at the project site in San Jose/Costa Rica between 4 weeks and 25 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. South America Inside will tell you your final price during your application process.
Average Fees
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with South America Inside during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
