About the Program

Agape Centre of Hope has taken the challenge to playing a proactive role initiating the supplementing efforts for eradicating poverty by increasing livelihood options. ACoH is a unique organization established in Mumias town solely to take care of street children. ACoH development society has a well-experienced implementation team and at least 18 volunteers. It is successfully achieving arms and objectives of the organization in collaboration/support of different philanthropists.

Agape Centre of Hope is a non-profit organization created by the efforts of Volunteers purely and is actively working to improving and uplifting the people quality of life by developing a support mechanism that can ensure the provision of social guidance to the communities at the approachable level. It is represented by the people who are committed to social and economic change of the poor and believe that strengthening and empowerment of the poor is critical to the poverty alleviation, because the powerlessness and poverty are almost synonymous. The pragmatic reality is that the poor lack choice and control over the resources and right to influence their future from the basis of their powerlessness.

  • Transforming street children and most vulnerable children into a leading dignified and responsible life in the community
  • Transformation of drop out school children with an aim of getting them back into the mainstream education
  • To work for uplifting the status of children & women in the society through poverty alleviation & gender development programs 
  • Enhancing gender equality by expanding women’s access to justice and human rights
  • To alleviate poverty through empowering poor people and increasing their access to income opportunities
  • To provide help under health & nutrition services for women and children
  • To encourage young people through capacity building programs to develop a healthier, safer lifestyle
  • To provide help to people suffering from natural calamities and work for uplifting poor rural/village people for their overall development
  • To propagate the need for tree plantation/pollution control and environmental awareness

Typical day

Usual working days are Monday - Friday from 09:00 AM - 16:30 PM including the following tasks.

  • Protection and rehabilitation of street children
  • Child counseling
  • Capacity building
  • Gender development
  • Hygiene development
There’s no such thing as a typical day! That’s part of the excitement of volunteering. Your life will become personally and professionally very different to what you know now. What is certain though is that you will be enjoying an all-new culture, mixing in a different community and challenging yourself professionally, in all new ways.

What's NOT included?

Airport Pickup

All our volunteers are picked up at the airport upon arrival hence volunteers are advised to confirm their arrival details in advance. We shall have one of the team members at the airport to receive you on your arrival. The person will will have a pager with your name printed on it for ease of identification.

Accommodation

Volunteers will be offered with a secure room in the house, bath shelters and toilets are available.

Volunteers are offered at least three meals a day from what is locally available. The family will also provide safe drinking water.

You can volunteer at the project site in Mumias, Kakamega/Kenya between 6 weeks and 30 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. VACK jitolee Africa will tell you your final price during your application process.
Average Fees
$93/week
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with VACK jitolee Africa during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
