The Research Assistant will provide research and administrative support to program staff and general office daily operations under direct supervision.

About the Program

For our organisation here at Eloi Ministries we need volunteers to support us by researching and working with us in our back office. This assures that our other programs can function properly. The Research & Administration Assistant will provide research and administrative support to program staff and general office daily operations under direct supervision of the office manager. 

Prior to Arrival

The main airport in Uganda is Entebbe airport. It is about 45K from the ELOI Ministries headquarters in Kireka, Uganda (just outside of the capital city of Kampala). We will pick you directly from the airport and return you upon your departure. You may acquire a "tourist" visa at the airport upon arrival. The cost is $50.00 USD. You will need a valid passport with at least 6 months remaining time before expiring on it. You can carry your inoculation card that shows your vaccine records and have it available if asked.

Typical day

Your Tasks

Activities are likely to include some or all of the following:

  • Perform a wide variety of research field work preparation tasks i.e., make detailed observations, enter data in Excel format, assist in analyzing data and collect supporting documents or literature from internet and other sources for interpreting results
  • Provide assistance in reviewing documents for accuracy as well as writing reports, summaries, protocols and preparing PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assist in the process of building collaboration with other partner institutions, i.e., maintain and update contact lists of implementing and research partners, other key stakeholders and consultants, keep confidentiality of files on projects
  • Contribute to the overall research process of preparing technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses by identifying current scientific literature as assigned by the program staff
  • Coordinate with partners on program related activities
  • Prepare correspondence, letters, meeting minutes and other communication as appropriate
  • Organize hard copy and electronic filing systems and retrieve files
  • Support staff in project-based work as assigned

Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

- Experience in research and administrative support is desired

Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:30 - 16:00

The indicated fees are for students. Workers and retired must pay a little more.

Airport Pickup at Entebbe International Airport

All local transportation for project is catered for including airport pickups and drop offs on departure day.

Accommodation

Eloi Ministries has a good banglow building which has great accommodation facilities, strategically located with easy access to Kampala city centre which renders it secure and accessible. The house is self contained, with WiFi internet, small shared rooms of two to three volunteers, cable TV, CCTV CAMERA surveillance, warm showers and electricity for lighting and ironing in a family setting among other amenities.

Vegetarian and non vegetarian foods available. Uganda is blessed with numerous fruit types which are also available.
A volunteer is entitled to four meals a day namely breakfast, lunch, evening tea and dinner.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe. We assist you to find cheap flights to Uganda.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Uganda provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Uganda you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Uganda.

You can volunteer at the project site in Kampala/Uganda between 4 weeks and 50 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Eloi Ministries will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Crowdfunding Service
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in Uganda.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment must be made up to 30 days before to the volunteer program starts. This payment is also securely handled by PayPal or credit card.
