Help us to give these kids a school that they can be proud to attend and receive the education that they deserve - volunteer as construction volunteer in Thailand!
School Redevelopment iIn Thailand
Across Thailand the government run schools receive very little funding. Books, materials, computers, classrooms, furniture, bricks and mortar all suffer as there simply isn't the money available. The vast majority of these schools, built throughout the mid to late 20th century, haven't had any refurbishment work completed since these schools were built. So you can imagine the state of some of these schools; dark, damp, crumbling and in some case, unsafe.
With the help of our volunteers we're working to return some schools on Koh Samui island to their former glory. We're painting, decorating, polishing, cleaning, building and repairing with our focus on making these schools a community centre to be proud of. We want to make the schools more conducive to learning, a place that the children look forward to studying and learning at and making them a shining light in the local community.
We're looking for volunteers who don't mind getting their hands dirty, are OK with hot and sweaty days, want to help with the redevelopment of some of Thailand's forgotten schools, understand how important your surroundings are when learning and studying and who don't mind living by the beach on one of Thailand's most beautiful islands.
Volunteers work from 9am to around 3pm each day, Monday to Friday. Lunch is provided every day for you at the school. Any transport that may be required is also provided. At least one of our project coordinators accompany volunteers each and every day so all questions are answered and guidance given.
Lots of local activities to do in this region during your free-time. You can do as much or as little as you would like! Spend your free time being a beach bum or head on an island tour, go rock climbing, slide down waterfall, go diving, eating and shopping! You're local coordinators are the gurus of fun on the island and they will help you to organise activities!
Once you have singed up to the project you will receive details of the airport pick up. Please note that we are only able to pick up volunteers who arrive in to Bangkok's main international airport called 'Suvarnabhumi' - airport code BKK. We are unable to pick up on any day other than the published arrival dates.
To qualify for the airport pick-up, volunteers are requested to arrive in to Bangkok international airport (Code: BKK) on the first or third Friday of any month.
Volunteer accommodation is in one of the two houses. Both houses have shared bedrooms and bathrooms with hot water, western toilets, FREE WiFi, kitchen and dining area, in and outdoor seating areas and are safe, quiet and comfortable. Both houses have easy access to beautiful beaches and are within walking distance of restaurants, ATM's, bars, shopping and everything else required for a comfortable stay.
Included food is a welcome meal in Bangkok during the tour on day one. We also supply lunch and water during the days at the project. Diet requirements (vegetarian etc.) can be catered for if we are informed in advance.
