Volunteer in Colombia Schools is the opportunity to help to improve this children aims and goals in life, helping them to have a broader view of the world. Children population is being hardly hit by the constant recession and social problems. School children need people to open their minds into the outside world by teaching a foreign language we can make a difference for them.

Volunteer teachers and assistants needed for school age children. *Schools are closed in Easter time 2 weeks, June to July mid-year summer holidays two weeks, October One week, December to mid-January winter holidays, and every bank holiday weekend. Schools are open to attend every day from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Volunteers will help to teach English and sports, creative lessons like painting, drawing, crafts, dance, singing sessions and lessons on the environment and nature, prevention of child abuse, child trafficking, drug abuse. And also to help the older children in their technical careers or entrepreneurship projects. This program can be combined with Spanish Immersion lessons and day centers for children with learning disabilities or the Youth Center.

Typical day

A daily routine for Volunteers can be as follow:

6-6:30 am Get up and have breakfast

6:50 am Arrive to the reception office to sign entrance. Start either at the San Javier School which holds 260 students only 15 minutes walking from the accommodation or Francisco Julian School at the town La Mesa which holds 2000 students in 4 blocks around the town 30 minutes from the accommodation by minibus.

7:00 am to 1:30 pm Teaching 

Break lunch is at noon 

Some grades finish at 5:00 pm 

Late afternoon sightseeing.

Other Skills
Children of this community lives in the countryside and one of the nearest touristic town near Bogota. So skills in agriculture, livestock and tourism will be very handful.
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 07:00 - 14:00

Free-time activities

The La Mesa town offer a variety of activities as it is surrounded by mountains, rivers, lakes, waterfalls. The cercanity to the Capital City of Bogota offer the opportunity to visit Museums, restaurants, bars and discos. For the weekends we offer organised tours to go caving or visiting other Colombian Counties like Santander or Boyaca which offer a lot more to do like visiting waterfalls, lakes, caves, extreme sports. Other volunteers have managed to visit the Tayrona Park in Santa Martha, Cartagena, The Caño Cristales in The Macarena, Palm Trees farms in Armenia, Coffee and Sugar Cane farms around. The Orquid Sanctuary at the Tequendama region and small towns around La Mesa. There is plenty to do in here, also we are blessed with hot climate. So be prepared.

What's included?
What is included in the price: Accommodation, 2 to 3 meals per day depending on the program, pick and drop off the Airport. Orientation and guidance to the work place.
What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.

Airport Pickup

We provide Airport pick and drop off, at the El Dorado, Bogota Airport


Living accommodation is in a share bungalow for up to 10 volunteers at the LPDLM headquarters in San Javier Village.

Single rooms only if request or less than 6 volunteers at one time.

Only two volunteers per room share a bunk bed

Bed linen is provided.

Volunteers will need to buy toiletries.

Common areas will be at the main house.

The Bungalow rooms are well decorated. With desk, Lamp, electricity, hot and cold share shower,two share toilets.

Unfortunately, the internet connection at the host family's house is not always stable. But you can go to the main town center of La Mesa to connect to the internet very easily. Is only 20 minutes by minibus.

For hot climate and the country side volunteers need to be prepared: with very light and long sleeves shirts and trousers at all times
Repellent, Sun Creams, Hat, torch to walk in the evening to the accommodation site if the volunteers decide coming late.

Breakfast is a traditional home cook meal, that can vary everyday, includes: eggs, chocolate or coffee, bread, butter, juice and or cereal. Lunch / dinner vary every day, and is a home cook meal which includes: vegetable, tuberculous like potatos or yuca, rice or pasta, chicken or meat, soup.

You can volunteer at the project site in La Mesa, Cundinamarca/Colombia between 1 weeks and 12 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Volunteer Colombia LPDLM will tell you your final price during your application process.
Average Fees
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Volunteer Colombia LPDLM during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
