Strengthening Health Care

The program specifically seeks to assist community health units/facilities and hospitals with the needed healthcare services that will improve lives.

The Youth Partnership for Peace and Development is a post-conflict institution that was formed out of the desire of helping young people and the communities they live in. Public Health bring one of our core focus in recent times, YPPD now works very closely with health sector institutions and partners as means to deepen access for everyone everywhere across Sierra Leone. Therefore as we advocate and provide direct support to community health centers, we work to expand access to healthcare and empower local communities through volunteers as means to tackle the growing and emerging most pressing health challenges.

The institution further provides Sexual and Reproductive Health education to schools and communities across Sierra Leone and indeed with the right tools that will break the silence on some of the important but less talked about SRH issues. Since the Ebola outbreak in 2014, our interventions have primarily integrated social mobilization, community education and awareness, and a long-term commitment to ending health care access disparities among citizens and their communities and in general, population at large.

In this flexible position, volunteer's job will be anchored on the following but not limited to:

  1. Supporting schools and communities with the tools needed for prevention and care
  2. Help develop YPPD's health sector response strategy and plan
  3. Train school health club leaders on range of public health issues
  4. Undertake community and school outreaches and engagement with relevant stakeholders
  5. Support in the organization's fundraising drives and partnership building with like-minded institutions
  6. Provide innovative community engagement and education strategies.
  7. Support training and capacity building endeavors among other things.

The volunteers will be based and working in Freetown and provincial travels from time to time where there's need.

Various capacity building opportunities will be created for children and young people especially through training in areas of HIV/AIDS, TB, Ebola, Cholera, Malaria and more. In a not too distance future we aim to open small health units/facilities in villages where government's and other partners support cannot reach and by so doing to provide direct health care services to low income populations and vulnerable groups such as children, women, people living with disabilities and more.
