The Work for Orphans program for Divine children home for volunteers is aimed at helping Volunteers do more for disadvantaged children. You can render invaluable help by giving them love and affection, teaching them basic conversational English, helping them in their school subjects, guiding them about personal hygiene and sanitation, taking them out on small excursions and engaging them in extra curricular activities.

It would be an unforgettable and soul enriching experience for you, which may compel you to return again and again to these orphans. Once you get over the initial culture shock of coming and working in Matale, you will realize that helping the orphans will give you immense satisfaction. A typical volunteer helping in an orphanage would help the children with their day to day activities such as: doing homework, making notes, playing with children, helping staff organize the orphanage, providing mental and physiological support, exchanging cultural views, teach them English ...

Around 12.30pm your morning class finishes.  You go back to the homestay for lunch which has been prepared for you.  Rice, beans, some vegetables, rarely meat.  In the afternoon there is no class but there are many other things to do.

It all depends on how you want to fill in your volunteering.  You can take care of the orphans at DCOH, or help Moody with the vegetable farm.  You can assist steve buying food for the orphanage.  Or you can go to the market to choose clothes for them.  You can accompany children to the doctor when they are ill.  There is plenty of help you can give.

At 5pm there is tea time and at 8pm there is supper with the children or with the other volunteers.

You can access internet . If you like, someone from your homestay will walk with you to make sure you feel comfortable any where you would like to go for your personal needs. You can also just stay at home and chat with your homestay family about Uganda life and culture.

On weekends you can go hiking to Mountain Elgon, River Nile, Lake Victoria among other touring sites, take an extra day off and go on a safari or visit other neighbor hood cities and town around our vicinity.  You can also volunteer if you like – we always need your help.
