Support Jungle Conservation

Napo Province, Ecuador show on map
Work in the Amazon and help protect the astonishing local biodiversity. Enjoy the exotic nature of the jungle up-close! This volunteer program is especially suitable for:

The Project

This project is located in the Amazon and aims to conserve local biodiversity. It takes place on a biological reserve that is run by a private, non-profit organization that was founded in 1986. Currently, the reserve has around 200 hectares of land. 70% of the land is forest, which is located on the southern bank of the Upper Napo River.

The main goal of the volunteer project is to promote biological conservation, research, environmental education, and sustainable management of natural resources. Unlike most reserves, this one is not open to the public, so no tourists will be around to visit. There may be some professional studies or investigations being conducted while you are volunteering at the biological field station.

Your Tasks

This project is perfect for anyone who loves nature. As a volunteer, you will have an organized schedule every week and work alongside a local coordinator who works at the biological station. This person will be your main contact onsite of the project and is responsible for assisting and coordinating the volunteers.

Some daily tasks may include:

  • Collecting field data, reforestation
  • Helping with environmental education efforts
  • Plant conservation
  • Agroforestry
  • Maintenance
  • Watering plants in the greenhouses
  • Documenting different plants for investigative purposes

The area where this project takes place is very isolated and home to indigenous communities that continue to carry out their traditional lifestyle and ancient traditions. Volunteers who stay for extended periods of time can help develop English programs with the local communities.

Free-time activities

In your spare time, there are a wide range of activities to choose from, such as doing sports, exploring the rainforest, doing outdoor fun. Many people go on hikes around the reserve to explore the wildlife. There is also a town called Tena about an hour away, which has some bars where you can socialize.
