Teach at a Kindergarten

Antigua, Guatemala show on map
Volunteer at a kindergarten in Guatemala where you can teach English and computer classes, help with homework, and entertain children during breaks. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:

The Project

Although education is free in Guatemala, many families can’t afford the transportation or materials needed for their children to attend school.

The aim of this project is to give children from poor families hope through the combined efforts of dedicated partners in the local community. Through the cooperation in the community and the help from volunteers, local children are provided with pre- and primary educations, career programs, hot meals, medical care, clothing, and access to sports and leisure activities.

In the schools, mornings are filled with lessons, while afternoon activities range from homework help to creative recreational activities. Older students are encouraged to learn English, acquire knowledge in computer programs, or participate in sports. Students receive fruits, snacks, and lunch.

In regions with extreme poverty rates and corresponding crime rates, education is the best way to break vicious cycles within families and improve the overall community. As a volunteer, you will play a direct role in improving the community and the lives of its children and families.

Your Tasks

On a typical work day, you will assist teachers with classes, help with homework, read with the children, offer assistance with computer tasks, and help create lesson plans/ activities for the class.

In the afternoon, it is important to provide valuable educational activities for the kids that promote their own talents and creativity. These types of activities help to develop the children and keep them busy so that they can stay away from the streets. As a volunteer, you will also be asked to teach English, instruct computer courses, paint, dance, sing, do crafts with recycled materials, or play sports.
