Gain valuable teaching experience working with an international NGO while gaining transferable skills and experiencing life in beautiful Itacaré.
ETIV do Brasil is located in the beautiful fishing and surfing town of Itacare, Bahia. Our mission is to connect international travelers with meaningful volunteer opportunities to support environmental conservation and development in Brazil.
ETIV Teaching Positions
Our ETIV volunteer English teachers will receive support from the director and the assistant director, although we are looking for volunteers that already have some background and/or experience with teaching English. Most of our English classes will be focused on teaching children and youth English, but volunteers can certainly offer some classes for adults as well. The community center where we offer our classes is already situated in a poorer area of Itacaré, which is ideal because we mainly want to focus on targeting children and youth who attend the public schools and who would not have the opportunity to receive English classes otherwise. Our English volunteers will be expected to work at least 20 hours per week, but a significant portion of that time can be dedicated to prepping and planning your classes as well as home visits and staying connected to the community. In addition, we will work with you to help you plan and organize a local fundraiser party or pub quiz to raise money for your project and any materials necessary to help you and the future volunteers that come after you to be supported and successful in the teaching position.
While teaching English, we also want our volunteers to teach many of the core values that lay the foundation for ETIV's work. This includes: mutual respect, cultural appreciation, caring for each other, speaking the truth, acting honestly and transparently, the value of a good education, sharing and being generous (as opposed to stealing or taking things that don't belong to you) and actively caring for the environment and all sentient beings. In fact, we encourage our volunteers to teach these values through all of our programs, but particularly those that are focused on working with children and youth.
These positions are perfect for someone seeking meaningful work experience in a stunning location with a thriving Afro-Brazilian culture. Itacare is unique place where the Rainforest meets the Atlantic Ocean and beautiful beaches, jungles, coconut trees, waterfalls and wildlife abound.
