Teach English to Children

Teach english to kids in Thailand and give them the tools to grow, develop and look forward to a brighter future. It's on you to make a difference!

Teaching at the Ban Leam Hoy School

Having worked at Ban Leam Hoy school on the island of Koh Samui for over two years, the success of our English teaching project has exceeded our own expectations.

Working with children aged 6 to 12 years old, our aim is to give them a good understanding of the English language in terms of reading, writing and speaking. This new skill will open up so many doors for these children as they develop in to young adults.

With tourism being the number one industry on the island, those with even a basic understanding of English will be able to find work that pays more than the only other genuine opportunities such as farming or working in the ailing fishing industry.

Volunteers need zero experience in any form of teaching as our hugely experienced team of coordinators will give you all the tools you need to be a competent teacher from day one and have the most impact on the students. We will show you everything that you need to know, from where to download teaching materials to how to control the classroom and more. Throughout the placement, however long you stay, at least one of our team will be with you to support you and to help you get the most from your placement and to ensure the kids are learning to the best of their ability.

This is by far our most popular project and the results it's producing are amazing. See for yourself, sign up today and make a genuine difference in the lives of those who need it.

Volunteering & The Importance of The English Language

By helping these children to learn English you're giving them the tools to develop and escape their hugely underprivileged routines. Most of the children we work with come from very poor, rural homes where the main source of income is from farming or fishing. Because both of those industries are very poorly paid, the children have very little to look forward too. Opportunities just don't exist for under-educated children from poor backgrounds.

With even a basic understanding of English, these kids have a bright future ahead of them. They will be able to find work in the ever busy tourism industry across Thailand. The tourism industry on Koh Samui, withover  a million visitors annually, needs locals with an understanding of English so by having this new skill these kids have so many more options. They also put themselves as front-runners for places at university or college as many further education establishments require a knowledge of English to be accepted.

Our Samui team are always on hand to help you out, whatever your issue and whatever you need and our operations team in Bangkok will make sure that everything runs smoothly from day one to your last day on the project.

It is our aim to create a genuine and long-lasting positive effect on the future of children from poor, impoverished homes on the island of Koh Samui.

Suitable for

Typical day

Volunteers work with the kids here for around 20 hours each week but would be on site from 9am to 3pm. When not in the classroom with the kids volunteers will spend their time lesson planning, creating tools for teaching, reviewing the teaching so far and more. All of this is done with the help, assistance and guidance of our experienced award-winning team.

Volunteers are collected from the volunteer accommodation in the morning and transferred to the school. On completion of the day volunteers are then returned to the house with the remainder of the day being free time to enjoy the beach, explore the island and prepare for the following day.
