This chance provides you an opportunity to help motivate and guide orphans and vulnerable children towards a successful career path and ultimately a better future!
What we do?
We strive to meet 'educational needs' of of orphans and vulnerable children by providing them quality and affordable education. Our school is guided by 3 key principles - mental nourishment, physical development and spiritual enrichment:
Before Beautiful Gate Community
School got established in February, 2003. Prior to the school being set up in
Robert shanty compound, there wasn't a single school in the area. Most of the
times, children would be seen running around the compound in tattered clothes
and unkempt hair during school hours or playing on rubbish dumps while sifting
for any useful scrap material that they could convert into toys. Initially, the school operated from a
two-bedroomed house within the township, with 45 students in attendance and
three members of staff. Two years later, funds were sourced to build a proper
school at its current location in the outskirts of the Township. The school has since grown and can now
boast of 600 students from baby class through to grade 9! The average age of
students in the school would normally range from 3 to 18 years. .Whereas
most of these children have either lost one or both parents, some of them come
from poverty stricken homes whereby a single meal is the order of the day. In
order to enable these children concentrate in class, we endearvor to offer them
meals whenever they report for school. Apart from this, we also provide school
uniforms and shoes to those who may not afford such.
Currently, there are about 15 teachers working in our school either as full time staff or volunteers assisted by a team of 4 auxiliary workers.
"Molding children into responsible citizens by nourishing them mentally, physically and spiritually through quality and affordable education."
To raise the next generation of professionals in diverse capacities as judges, lawyers, doctors, accountants, teachers, engineers, architects etc even from the unlikeliest of places such as Robert shanty compound.
Goals of our school
Our goals are in line with the following four (4) 2015 millennium development goals on education:
Role of volunteers
In the face of limited financial capacity, volunteers always come in handy to compliment the efforts of non-profit organizations in whatever capacity they are called to serve. In this particular case, it is anticipated that volunteers will bring along a wealth of skills and talents to help inculcate knowledge into the minds of orphans and vulnerable children. However, due to cultural, language and societal barriers that may arise, volunteer teachers may be assigned to work hand in hand with local staff as assistant teachers until such a time that they are able to execute duties on their own.
Volunteers can join the program throughout the year. Although schools go on recess during the months of April, August and December, there's always other work to do such as reaching out to the street kids, participating in community outreach and helping organize youth camps that take place during school holidays.
There's a complete package of exciting activities that you can enjoy both within and off campus during free time! We've sports fields where our you and of course local staff can spoil yourselves to games such as volleyball, netball and football. We also have a farm in the countryside where you can go camping or for picnics over the weekend.
In case you wish to experience life outside campus, there's a long list of places of interest to consider: There's the Countryside resort that one may visit for fishing escapades, not far from us!
In a mood to view game?
Well.....you can always take a 2 hour trip to Chimfunshi Orphanage Trust to view Chimpanzees and listen to interesting stories. This is the place where they offer sanctuary to Chimpanzees and Monkeys from abroad where the rich keep them as pets but immediately dump them once the are deemed to have grown too old and became dangerous! 45 minutes from our location, there's a game reserve where you may enjoy viewing animals such as Kudus, impalas, giraffes, crocodiles and snakes.
If you're up to more adventure and wish to explore our touristic attractions further, you may as well hop into a train and find your way to our Livingstone! Once you're in the tourist capital, you may not only marvel at the Mighty Victoria Falls, which is one of the 7 wonders of the world, but also come face to face with the big 5 (Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Leopard and Buffalo)!
If your bodies are aching and feel like stretching your muscles, you can always go boat cruising and swimming or mountain climbing and bush trailing in the dense Mwekera Forest.
Feel like sending souvenirs back home to family and friends or indeed something to remind yourself of Africa? Well........you don't have to look further because there are several curio markets within our city where you can purchase such treasured items!
